When do you expect the first snow of the season?

I live in Northern Virginia, and there is no “expect” about snow here. Some years are Arctic, some are Tropical. //Gump voice: You nevah know what youah gonna get. \

This year we didn’t have a single snow. I always say we can expect at least one good one in March, but 2023 made a liar of me. It’s quite rare for snow to fall after March, but there was one year when a snowstorm ruined my birthday picnic, the last week of April.

I can also recall a snowfall the first week of October in my childhood. It was the source of much merriment in our household, because when my mother was saying “no” to something, she’d always say “When it snows in October.” We made a long list of things she needed to do for us that month. LOL!

Piper Yard is now snow- and ice-free. First day of the year that I’ve been able to say that.

Nothing left on the ground here, and a beautiful day today.

As one of the sports bar regulars said, “Typical Alberta. We had 15 minutes of spring on Thursday, and jumped right into summer.”

We do have ‘Spring’ sort of. But it is called mud season. The melting snow makes things a bit of a mess. Our spring showers come down as white stuff.

But the good news is ski season is pretty much over with, and it’s too muddy to mountain bike. Hiking is a cross between boots and snow shoes. So, we have about a month reprieve from visitors, and it almost seems like the locals outnumber them.

We had three days of summer, and then went straight back to late winter. We are now in spring.

Weren’t those three days glorious? But they made the crappy weather we’ve had/are having since seem even worse.

I put on shorts today. But I’m in Denver. A mile lower than my house.

My Wife is up at altitude. But we don’t see any weather coming in for there, that should be OK. I need to remain in Denver for about a week to take care of my mothers estate (on going).

I drive back and forth. It is not fun.
