I remember Tubadiva back in 97. I assumed she played tuba in her HS band. She was a moderator on the AO board. Lynn Bodoni was a wisecracking active poster back then. They are both administrators. I assume this site is run largely by volunteers. But is there a point where reimbursement is necessary. My assumption; the moderators are volunteers while the administrators are paid. If not in money, perks. “Administrator” just sounds like more headaches.
Chocolate is definitely a perk:)
Well, we get a nifty mug that says “Straight Dope Staff.” And we get a new calendar from the READER at year end. And Lynn gets lots of virtual chocolate. That’s about it.
Every once in a while, we get a compliment.
That about covers pay. This is a job for love, not for a profit-sharing plan, stock options, and retirement benefits.
And, for the record, TUBADIVA is a active tuba player to this very day, it wasn’t just a high school band thing. Adide from real gigs, she’s hired by the Coast Guard from time to time to bring down small enemy spy planes.
Damn, Dex, you blew my cover!
your humble TubaDiva
who sometimes gets real chocolate too, thanks to all that send tribute.
Hell, my Moderators don’t even get a coffee mug. Although my Administrator does get all the mind-blowing sex she can handle…
[sub]Sure beats a coffee mug, I imagine…[/sub]
I think that depends entirely on how much one likes coffee.
