I would like to suggest a small change in the way the threads announcing the deaths of Dopers are handled. It’s been several months now since Q.E.D. died and people are still just hearing about it now. He may be the most well-known doper we’ve lost so far and it’s a shame that many of his friends are only learning of it now because they don’t peruse MPSIMS on a regular basis.
I think it would be nice if a poster was known to post in certain forums more than others that it would be much better if their passing could be announced in those forums, either stickied or not.
Aside from that, I want to say great job on maintaining the memorial thread Marley23. It’s been handled tactfully and respectfully.

Oh man, are some of us going to hell.
That’s why my mod staff is a pitchfork.
I think this is a good idea. The current system does work pretty well, I think, considering you’re never going to be sure everybody knows.
It occurs to me that the death of active members of the Doper community hapens seldom enough that an announcement would not be asking too much. Someone who;s posted 103 times since joining in 2001, the In Memoriam thread is probably adequate. But someone who’s been an active participant in a wide range of topics and interacted with a great many of us, an announcement might be appropriate. Let the Admins. determine on a case by case basis who fits the definition for “active member of the community” – it’s pretty much a judgment call anyway.
I did not know about QED.
OK, good suggestion. Let’s hope that this situation doesn’t ever occur again, but if it does we’ll try to make a general announcement.
