Can anyone provide me the exact date when Nancy Reagan first uttered those famous words, “Just say no”? I need the info for a story I’m writing, and I want to know how far back I can go before the phrase would be anachronistic. The wikipedia article lacks that important piece of information, and my google-fu is failing me. I’m going to update that article with the info, so a print cite would be great too.

The earliest I can find seems to date to about the time of her October 12, 1983 appearance on “Good Morning America.” The New York Times on that date (late edition, east coast) ran an article that read in part

NANCY REAGAN visited Needham, Harper & Steers yesterday to preview its two-pronged advertising attack on drug abuse, her favorite cause.

I didn’t realise that it was Nancy Reagan who coined/popularised the term “just say no,” interesting.
