As my outrage/horror/sadness meter at the state of the world has pegged and broken, I present to the Teeming Millions a silly poll.
When getting dressed, what do you put on first? Pants or socks?

Underwear. Then socks.
What do you mean by “pants”?
I never wear socks so I can’t vote.
Long things you put on your legs. Slacks, pants, jeans - things like that.
No, I do not mean condoms.
Socks are the work of the Small-Footed Devil. I never wear them! Sandals Rule!!!
Except just after a snow storm.
F#$%ing socks…

I disagree with my esteemed colleagues above. Always socks first. You don’t want to transfer anything, like some undetected athlete’s foot, to more sensitive areas.
Moisturizer
A Hissy Fit.
Underwear before socks. Socks before pants.
Mainly because my ex wife trained me to never be naked while wearing socks. Apparently women hate this for some reason.
I selected pants, but yeah, underwear before pants.
Briefs, then socks, then shirt, then pants.
Shirt first, those toe-shoes, then the utilikilt.
My usual order:
boxers, shirt, socks, pants
How do they work?
I put on my socks before I put on my pants. And I don my undergarments before that. Shoes are usually last.
If I’m wearing socks, then I put them on before pants, because it’s more difficult to scrunch the pants up enough to put on socks to their full length. But when the weather is warm enough, I’m not wearing socks at all. And in any event, I always put on underpants (and undershirt, if applicable) before either pants or socks.
Shirt first, usually a tee.
I voted third party, but not jokingly. Here’s why:
Non-workday: underpants, pants (99% shorts, 1% long pants), shirt. Then a couple hours later in-shoe sock liners (AKA mini socks) and shoes before going out. Today I did the first part 3 hours ago and will probably do socks 2 hours from now.
Workday: underpants, undershirt, socks, shirt, pants, tie, boots. Socks come earlier in this flow because they go all the way up to the knee and are hard to put on after pants.
An occupational hazard of both pilots and software devs is carefully analyzing any group of events to determine the optimal sequence, then building the habits to perform the optimal sequence every time. I’m LSLGuy and I admit I’ve got a problem.
I’m a BA, not a code monkey, but I agree with you, socks before pants but shorts before socks.
