When I don’t subscribe to SDMB, will my email address be removed from SDMB junk mailing lists? Clearly, I don’t want any more junk mail coming to my email address due to previously signing up on SDMB when it was free.
I can assure the SDMB does not currently use your e-mail address for anything like you suggest. And I think it highly unlikely that they’ll do so in the future.
Then why did my spam almost double after I signed up on SDMB?
If that is happening, it can only be a coincidence. I haven’t gotten a single piece of spam (or other email, for that matter) as a result of my membership.

Me three - it has to be a coincidence. I created the address I use here when I signed up, and I have never gotten any spam on the account.

Perhaps you put your e-mail address in an unsafer place around the same time?

It’s also possible, if you ever had your e-mail address publicly visible here (I note that you don’t, currently), that a spambot could potentially have harvested your e-mail address from these pages. vBulletin has a number of features to make this more difficult, but if the address is publicly visible, then it’s always still possible.
If you did not ever have your address publicly visible, then it has to be a coincidence. In the entire history of the SDMB, the administrators have only twice sent a bulk e-mail to all members (in both cases, it was because the board had been cracked into, and members were warned that their old passwords might no longer be secure).
As for whoever or whatever did sign you up for all that spam, one thing you can count on is that they’re never going to remove you from their lists, no matter what you do.
