…with my hands, that is. Why is that? I just feel weak and incapable with my muscles or something. It goes away after 5-30 minutes, depending when I get out of bed. Anyone get similar symtoms? I think it’s natural, like maybe related to blood circulation. Lemme know what you all think; thanks.
There are chemicals that paralyze your muscles while you sleep, so you don’t thrash around. I think that if these don’t wear off quickly enough you can have trouble moving right after waking up.
do you tend to fall asleep at odd times or have trouble with sleepiness throughout the day?
Sleep apnea (ceasing to breath for extended periods when sleeping) can cause the same symptoms. If you have no other health problems or slepp related problems than the above poster is likely on the right track, but sleep apnea can be very dangerous and can cause long term damage to the heart and other functions.
My hands to the same thing, I’ve been assuming it’s normal. An example is trying to open a tight-fitting door - my hand doesn’t get a good enough grip on the doorknob to do it easily. Like you say, wait a few minutes and it’s fine.
Phage, I think whatever causes muscle paralysis during sleep happens in the brain, not by sending paralysis chemicals all through your body.
I’ve always thought it was normal. Another problem early in the morning is vision and reading small print, esp if I have to wake up at 4:30 Am with little sleep, as opposed to waking up at 9am.
No diagnosing of others, but…
I have carpal tunnel problems in both hands. Whichever hand is underneath me when I wake up is often stiff and sore and sometimes bent into a claw. And trouble gripping is often a symptom of carpal tunnel. I can’t use a mouse because of the pain it causes to grip.
