When I write "horsehead bookends", what comes to mind automatically for you?

Discovered this film on HBO one night, and was amazed at how hilarious it was! And contrary to Something About Mary claiming to be the first R-rated (not X) film to show spooge, this in fact was (shooting out of the telephone during an obscene phone call).

“I’m gonna give ya horsey head!”

I think of my old insurance agent. Which may be an unusual response but he really did live in Horseheads.

My immediate thought was of a pair of bookends made from stuffed horse’s heads.

I never saw the movie, and know nothing about the plot. I recognized the name but that’s all.

I think of a particular pair of actual bookends. I wouldn’t call them tacky.

That’s right, Malvert. Run along now.

/I’d like to kill the kid with the chewing gum. . .

Yeah, that’s it. You’re quote is more accurate than mine. I haven’t seen the movie in like 20 yrs.

Ack! Missed your post above, wasn’t trying to be dickish. I loved that movie as a young teen! I remember the killer looking at a desk full of possible murder weapons - letter opener, rope, etc etc, then selected the paper clip. Malvert was weird beyond words - too bad the actor never got any other movie-tv work that I know of.

Malvert sometimes pee red.

Where’s that spit-take smiley?

Ya know, I bet I have that movie somewhere around here. . .

Aw, you started without me.

Aannd they’re off!

I saw the movie Student Bodies, but though I remember quite a bit about it, (killing the fly, “Because I’m beautiful and you’re hideous.” to mention a couple) the horse head bookends did not register until I saw your spoiler.

I couldn’t decide between “bookends” and “rather tacky decorative pieces” as I pictured rather tacky bookends that look like horse’s heads. Had the question been just about “horse heads” I would have thought of The Godfather. I think I actually did see Student Bodies but I don’t remember anything about it.

Exactly this.

I have never heard the phrase, so voted other.

I did cast a vote (“book ends”) but I don’t really understand your poll, ma’am.

I think of ceramic or plaster bookends in the shape of horses’ heads, for placing on bookcases to keep one’s books in place.

Any time I hear “horse” and “books” mentioned in the same phrase I just think of the strange internet phenomenon that later became part of an ARG, @HorseEbooks.

Unless you’ve got a seriously massive chess set.

I’ve seen the movie too, more than once even, but I don’t recall anything at all about bookends in it, so clearly that wasn’t a memorable part of it to me.
