These 90-character messages, known as Wireless Emergency Alerts (or WEAs), are part of a program put in place after Congress passed the Warning, Alert, and Response Network (WARN) Act, in 2006. WEAs allow for targeted messages to be sent to every cell phone getting a signal from certain geographically relevant cell towers (or, in a national emergency, all of them).

Here’s where things get interesting. Per the FCC, a WEA may be sent for three different reasons:

Alerts from WEA cover only critical emergency situations. Consumers will receive only three types of alerts:

1. Alerts issued by the President

2. Alerts involving imminent threats to safety or life

3. Amber Alerts

Participating carriers may allow subscribers to block all but Presidential alerts.

So Twitter can’t be coerced by the state to host content or to create custom content but a little bakery can be fined out of existence? Sounds hypocritical to me. But the ends justify the means, correct? Wait til state power and precedent is in the hands of your political opponents.

Precedent can suck. Filibuster can go bye-bye for example now that the dems have shown it wasn’t needed in some cases.

Any particular reason you chose to note that fact? I mean, you could have noted that he is British, and Twitter banned him. You could have noted that he is Catholic, and Twitter banned him. You could have noted that he is of Greek heritage, and Twitter banned him.

Or, you could have noted that he’s been suspended by Twitter several times and now banned for “inciting or engaging in targeted abuse or harassment”. You could have, but you didn’t.

I thought it was obvious: Euphonious Polemic said “Good think twitter does not refuse service to gay people.” If he had said Twitter does not refuse service to British Catholics then my post would have read “Well … only some British Catholics.”

I was referring to these points (My bold):

Would someone at FEMA have the balls to refuse to grant him access for frivolous tweets that would trivialize the system?

Or you can carry on about how Twitter can’t have terms of service that fall within the law because right-wing bigots who own bakeries aren’t allowed to operate outside of it.
