A limp effort at projection, really? No wonder you like Trump.
Oh, it’s censorship, all right (or at least related to it, depending on how rigidly “censorship” is defined). Do you know why “hate speech” exists as a concept, though? You might want to do some reading of your own country’s recent history.
In any case, Twitter banning Trump might end up being more of a public service - reducing the avenues by which Trump can bring embarrassment to the United States.
OK, it’s not a Trump tweet, but as another example of his cluelessness about appropriate communications, he told the British Prime Minister on the phone, “If you travel to the U.S., you should let me know.” (I’m no diplomat, but even I understand that the Prime Minister of the UK does not just casually visit the US, so that the POTUS isn’t even aware she’s in town.)
This was mentioned in an article about the casual phone calls he’s made to various world leaders, upsetting diplomatic situations.
Hate speech as a concept? Sure. Precisely defining it or leaving it up to the state to censor or control speech? I’d rather see an offensive word than live in a country where the citizenry is that stupid to entrust the state with that power.
I’m not a free speech absolutist. But I don’t see the role of government in stifling legitimate debate on illegal immigration or dangerous ideologies/religions. I don’t see the role of government in punishing politically incorrect comedy or satire either.
Well, conveniently, you DO live in a country where a good portion of the citizenry is indeed that stupid, ref: Trump’s tweet on flag-burning and the support it generated.
Let’s see if your boy Trump feels the same way. Of course, it’s possible he simply can’t concentrate on the issue long enough to do anything about it.
Anything that isn’t somewhat factual and calls for unnecessary violence would be a good start. Like threatening a politician or his supporters is pretty hateful. Not wanting open borders is not. Saying women should be beat by their husbands because an archaic book says so is hateful. Saying women should earn what the market is willing to pay even if it leads to disparate outcomes is not. Saying throw the Jews in the oven merely because they are Jewish is hateful. Saying throw the leaders and soldiers of ISIS in the oven because of their actions is not.
I still don’t care to have it regulated. The only thing that really got me rethinking free speech are a few gore sites I had the misfortune to have had the curiosity to click on once or twice. There are some depraved people in this world.
Trump’s addressed Taiwan as an individual state which will hopefully help his son w/ potential Trump brand business there but will anger China and we will hear about it.
He’s gone from bull in a china shop to MRSA in a children’s ward.
