When Jim Henson died...

Does anyone else remember the special that aired when Jim Henson died, where the muppets dealt with his death?

They sang this song that went “If just one person believs in you/hard enough and long enough belives in you…”

That’s about all I remember, but I do recall that I loved the song.

Anyone else recall what it was called and if it was ever released?

I love my muppets.

I loved the muppets too and cried when Jim Henson passed on. Alas the special was never aired down under to my knowledge. Let me know if you find it though andygirl.

“Just One Person”
Sung by Bernadette Peters with Kermit and Fozzie (and everyone else eventually).

I feel like crying just READING that. I was seriously depressed when Jim Henson died. I’m a big Muppets fan (Jim Neighbors was on yesterday) and he was a brilliant creator. I don’t think I could ever watch a show where the Muppets say goodbye.

I was always sort of ashamed that I was this adult (I use the term loosely) who cried every time she heard Jim Henson’s Kermit. But here’s a fantastic warm fuzzy for all of us who miss him so much.

Late last night on Noggin (a kids’ network–yeah, like they need another one…) after they aired an old re-run of Electric Company, they ran an old Sesame Street–they call it Sesame Street Unpaved. It was AWESOME. Remember ‘Mah-Nah, Mah-Nah?’ With the little fuzzy guy and the two girls singing back-up? It was hilarious. Raul Julia ran the repair shop…
I can’t explain how, but it was very refreshing and warming. Like seeing old friends. If you get a chance to watch these old re-runs, do it. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ve forgotten–and how much you’ll remember.

I already confessed this on the “favorite muppets” thread a while back, but I too was devastated when Jim Henson died. Of all the “famous people” who have died, that was the one who affected me the most.

This confession would horrify my husband, who can remember the exact moment he heard when John Bonham died, and when Lennon was shot.

I’ve got a Kermit “Got Milk?” poster in my office right now.

I didn’t see that show you’re referring to. Wish I had.

It may sound stupid now but I heard the news that Jim Henson had passed away on the radio driving home from work and I had to pull into a parking lot I was so upset.
Oh, Ernie. :frowning:

Why would it horrify him? I thought pretty much everybody was affected by Henson’s death. I know I was.

It’s not being bummed by it. It’s putting it first on my list that would puzzle him. My husband worships other heroes, especially in the music world, and a lot of them have gone to an early grave. I don’t think JH would make his top three.

Yes, and there was also a remake with Sandra Bullock and Kermit where they changed it to “phenomena”. But the original was by far the best.

My three year old daughter is watching the Dark Crystal for the nth time as I write this. “Bad Skeksis” is what she is telling me. I agree.

Henson was a genius and it looks like he will be immortalized through his work. I can see our grandkids watching what Alex and I are watching now and loving it just as much.

I also have to admit that in the last couple of months of watching re-runs on the Odyssey channel, I’ve cried twice. Once while watching Kermit sing “It’s Not Easy Being Green” and once when he sang “The Rainbow Connection”. I don’t know why I cried even. Is it the loss of childhood? The loss of Henson? Our own children being denied the pure joy of watching these fabulous creatures and thier terrible vaudville style acts? I don’t know, but every single time I watch this show I either cry or laugh right out loud. Awesome stuff!

Any filkers around here heard Tom Smith’s A Boy and His Frog? Every time I hear that song I tear up. I can’t even sing along without sobbing. It is a wonderful tribute to Henson.

I remember Sammy Davis Jr. died the same day. I was a little sad to hear that. I just about collapsed when I heard about Jim. As a puppeteer myself, my dream was to eventually perform with him. :frowning:

Juliana,
I’ve posted a couple of times that people should listen to A Boy and His Frog as one of the great tributes.

The Muppet Show is basically my favoritist show ever. Nothing else ever came close. And Sesame Street et al just don’t seem the have the same egde they used to. But maybe that’s just me. There have only been three famous people whose deaths affected me deeply, and he’s one.

I could have sworn that Ted Koppel said something like “And people are wondering if it was AIDS.”

I wasn’t watching that, but Carson instead, which is how I link Sammy and Henson, 'cause Johnny gave a special mention to both of them that night.
