Giraffe, samclem, you are right in that there is no action at this point that would satisfy me. I think I said something to that effect on the OpalCat thread. You can go to a week old thread and give a warning with a new thunderbolt smilie and all, and that makes no difference.
As I said in my previous post. I am not sure I care to pit this anymore, as I there is no action needed on anyone’s part. This is more of a random though I had to share.
Still, consider this topic for discussion on the mods forum and make of it what you want. One of the things that make the SDMB what it is, is a pretty good moderation that keeps the place running clean. Won’t it be better if such moderation is applied equally to all? It is perfectly fine for this place to have cliques. That is what internet communities are all about, after all. Still, making the in members golden in regards to the law is not a good way to invite new people in. And when it is only the clique left, then being in is no longer an in thing.
Decline is the time for taking risks, not for beefing up the defenses.

Did you really, though? Both of your complaints had already been brought up elsewhere. Neither incident directly involved you. Your thought is neither random nor particularly interesting, and it sure as shit ain’t new.

How often does the staff have to explain that nobody reported the offending post?
The general basis of Sapo’s ire is, as I understand it, Opal did something wrong, wasn’t warned for it, and this indicates favoritism on the part of the moderating staff.
Yet the staff has explained more than once that no one reported the post, and have indicated that if the post had been reported, it likely would have garnered a warning.
I guess I don’t understand how anyone can have a problem with that. If the lack of warning about a post offends you, and you haven’t reported the post, you have have to shut up about it. Or report the post. Then you can whine… er, discuss… all you want.
