When the "first time" isn't the first time

Listening to a World Series game years ago, after someone hit a grand slam, the sportscaster said, “the first World Series grand slam …” and I am thinking to myself, that’s baloney it’s not the first. Then he said “…since one was hit…” and he gave a reference to one hit about two years before the one above.

The point is that it seems that especially in sports, everytime someone says “the first time”, it isn’t the first time, it’s simply the first time since the last time, or more correctly…“the next”.

No big deal.

Am I the only one that is bugged by this?

Bugs me too. But I hate almost everything sports announcers do. I think there should be a law restricting them to commenting on the actual action taking place before their eyes.

Definitely, definitely, we need an exception to the First Amendment that prohibits all interviews of athletes and coaches or at least prohibits them from using cliches.

Is anyone bugged by people posting IMHO questions in GQ?

I’m guessing this would be better off in the other forum.

GQ if for question with factual answers. You don’t seem to be bugged enough to actually rant (in which case I’d move this to the BBQ Pit). I’ll move this to IMHO.

Yeah… when people claim they are virgins and then are not… it’s a pisser.

This phenomena has only annoyed me once since the last time it annoyed me.
