If so, then what’s the problem? If they are so willing to recognize their indebtedness to an eternal Creator, we shouldn’t be sending these pious paragons of capitalism to prison. Maybe if all the people who lost their life savings and/or jobs had uttered those words with as much vigor, they wouldn’t have all been smacked so hard by the wrath of divine justice.
Instead, let’s focus on the real enemy–those who dare to adhere to unpopular religious opinions.
And, of course, if they’re all Atheists, then you’re a flaming asshole.
Hell, after that little smear above, I think you’re a flaming asshole no matter what. Who the hell do you think you are, dishonoring people with sincere beliefs by decrying their God?
I didn’t read this as a smear against religion, but against the politicians who see taking “under God” out of the pledge as a bigger concern (or at least an easier opportunity to score political brownie points) than companies using fraudulent accounting practices to swindle their investors out of billions of dollars.
Bernie Ebbers is a self-professed born again Christian. So he’d certainly be up for the “under God” part. But he’s also a Canadian, don’t know if he ever naturalised. If not, then the rest of the pledge might be a tad insincere.
As to what was meant by the OP, that’s a bit less than clear.
