Everyone else’s parentage is ambiguous, too. It it is really rare to see a parent/child relationship in that part of Disney.
Which means the purple-eyelidded cat [Edit: Toodles Galore, per Wiki] from other episodes was lounging around naked (aside from her bow). No wonder she attracted so much attention.
I also just noticed, looking at Google images of her, that she’s drawn with no tail. Which is sort of creepy.
A Manx minx?
I pointed out to my son’s early interventionist that in her Elmo book (shudder) she was using with him, Elmo wakes up in pajamas but then changes into… nothing for the day.
Weirded her a bit out, it did.
Perhaps she’s a Manx.
And that’s why Mickey Mouse wears a bathing suit at the beach, and Pluto (usually) doesn’t:
Although Pluto HAS been known to wear a bathing suit:
Obviously, Mickey put it on him so he’d look “cute,” and Pluto hates it!
Reminds me of when I used to take my dog to the seashore. I never dressed her up (though my daughter loved to do it), but she was scared of the open water and didn’t like being near it AT ALL.
I remember reading about that years ago. I don’t know if it was revealed as inaccurate back then, but Snopes says it isn’t so.
Damn! Another myth busted!
with many mammaries.
She’s a cat? She looks more like Jerry than Tom, if you ask me. Look at those mousy ears.
The important question is how Mickey has a friend that is a dog, Goofy, and a pet that is a dog, Pluto
You know, I thought the same thing. I mean, I knew she was a cat based on the cartoons and her size relative to Jerry but you’re right about the ears. Googling her (which is where I learned her name) confirms that she is in fact a cat – albeit one who ends the cartoon by kissing Jerry in Casanova Cat.
The most disturbing Tom & Jerry cartoon is the one which apparently ends with the pair committing suicide.
I dare not criticize the Smartest Man on Earth, but I believe this is much darker and Freudian than Cecil admits to. :dubious:
Because, like wearing an onion on your belt, it was the style at the time.
Lots of other examples. Mickey Mouse has had valuable papers eaten…by mice. And Donald Duck famously does a double-take in Fantasia 2000 when a pair of ducks board’s Noah’s Ark. Duckburg and Mouseton also have sapient simian characters…and also wild gorillas.
(More hauntingly, Duckburg and Mouseton have sapient porcine characters…and bacon.)
(The web comics “Kevin and Kell” and “Doc Rat” both deal in VAST detail with the problems of provender for multi-species societies. It was addressed, and solved by a convenient deus ex machine, in “Kimba the White Lion.” But Disney publications have largely ignored the matter. We’ll have to presume that bacon comes from the non-sapient variety of pigs.)
Even among sapient animals, there are still some major size differences. Mickey, a sapient mouse, has appeared with Donald, and is about the same size as him. Donald has appeared with Chip and Dale, and is much larger than them. Chip and Dale have appeared with Gadget Hackwrench, a sapient mouse, and are about the same size as her.
Or from those machines on the wall in public bathrooms.
