In old movies, you always saw a millionair sitting by a ticker machine, watching stock prices on the tape.
These machines were invented by Edison, and consumed vast amounts of paper tape-remember those “ticker tape” parades?
Anyway, I like the look of them-they probably are valuable antiques today.
When did they go out of use?
According to the Stock Ticker Company, the last mechanical ticker was introduced in 1960. No date on when it was fully replaced, but certainly by the 1970s.
It looks like the tickers were always a bit behind the market, while the electronic versions could keep up faster.
