When will Bernie Sanders concede?

He said that he won’t concede even though Hillary won’t be indicted. I supported him in the primaries, but he needs to admit defeat. The superdelegates that he worked so hard to stop are not going to go against the will of the voters and support him. It’s over. He is still a Senator, and he should now focus on his job in the Senate. He’s going to put Trump in the White House if he’s not careful.

He’ll concede at the convention after he loses the vote.

He’ll concede in the hours following Hillary’s swearing in on January 20th, when it’s clear there won’t be any further recounts coming.

Well, maybe. Let’s face it, Sanders is like your crazed and slightly inappropriate uncle who shows up at Thanksgiving and starts a conversation on how there is something “funny” about the September 11 attacks and then quickly segues into Bildergerger conspiracies and how petroleum is actually squeezed out of the butts of fairie dwaves living in some kind of hollow space between the Earth’s crust and mantle. He has exactly zero motivation to follow any rules or conform to social norms, and he’ll keep screeching like a sitcom upstairs neighbor as long as someone has a camera on him.

And to be fair (although I don’t know why I bother since rationality and evenhandedness isn’t any kind of consideration in politics) he’s absolutely right to protest that the Democratic primary election process is blatantly and pervasively rigged. At any rate, continuing to flake and get media attention will probably only help him pivot to reelection in his next Senate race.

Stranger

It doesn’t matter when he concedes, his followers will still insist he has a chance.

In other news, his die hard supporters are actually melting down over yesterday’s FBI decision not to recommend prosecution of Hillary. (Article on CNN) It appears all 12 of them won’t vote for Hillary no matter what now.

I’m a Clinton supporter but I don’t think Sanders is hurting the Democratic Party. He’s winding things down at the same rate as his fervent supporters are coming to grips with the reality that he’s not going to be the nominee. His continued existence in the sweepstakes gives the press something to write and talk about. He’s entitled to wait until the official vote makes him offiicially not the party’s choice.

Since only the DNC and crazed Hillary fans care about this any more than when Harold Stassen will concede then it really doesn’t matter. He continues in order to get under their skin and maintain the support of his own crazed fans. He’s creating a new concept here, the Pyrrhic Loss.

When Hillary leaves office.

I think he’s a little like the Fonz, saying “I was wrong” or in this case “I lost” is unlikely to ever come out of his mouth. Instead, he will endorse Clinton, but never say the whole “It was a good race, and we did well, but Secretary Clinton won fair and square.” Instead he’ll support her, say he will vote for her (but everyone needs to vote their own conscious), that her policies don’t go far enough, but at least head the right direction, the important thing is to defeat Trump, etc.

It’s rigged man, everything is rigged. Just ask Bernie or Donald. The whole fucking world is rigged.

Which is good to know actually. I was wondering why I didn’t get that job once. They hired a retired submariner who served 25 years in those cramped little boats defending our way of life instead. The bastards have rigged it all.

Knock knock.

(Who’s there?)

Bernie Sanders.

(Bernie Sanders who?)

EXACTLY!!!

I don’t think he’s hurting the Democratic party either. But he is turning himself into a little more of a laughingstock than he already was, and has hurt his explicitly stated goals of pushing the party further left.

Sanders’s problem is that the majority of his supporters have already swung over to supporting Clinton, leaving him with a rump of dead-enders and #neverclinton types. The persuadables have been persuaded, and there’s no one left there to try to appeal to. His leverage is gone, and he has no one to blame for that but himself.

He’s a good write-in option.

He’ll concede when Hillary gets off his lawn.

He seems like he is in a bind. Support Hillary and he supports the establishment. Plus this is his time in the sun after 50 years in civics and public service. If he admits defeat and supports Hillary that goes away.

Then again, destroying all the goodwill he built isn’t helping him or the movement either.

This afternoon’s headline

House Democrats boo Bernie Sanders in contentious meeting

At this point, even if he put all his proposals into legislation, he probably couldn’t even get liberal Democrats to back him.

Hopefully not before the SNL season premiere, so Larry David can do his thang.

The CNN (Clinton News Network?) story leads with the claim that three unnamed Democrats claimed Bernie was boo’d. So that becomes CNN’s headline? But the same CNN story names three attending Democrats who say they didn’t hear any booing. Is CNN publishing someone else’s horseshit or are they making up their own horseshit?

*House Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra, who presided over the meeting, said he never heard any boos during the session, but downplayed the dissent, saying the discussion was “animated.” He said members did focus on the need to unify, and Sanders informed House Democrats that Clinton was announcing her support for his approach on college affordability.

The number two House Democrat, Rep Steny Hoyer, told reporters he was sitting in the front row during the meeting with Sanders and didn’t hear anyone booing.

Virginia Rep Gerry Connolly took issue with some descriptions of the meeting on Twitter, saying, “Bernie was respectfully received by Caucus. Some disagreements, yes, but a friendly venue” and “Sanders was reflective and thoughtful in responses. Expressions of disagreement are NOT booing.”*

Don’t like CNN? Okay. Here’s Politico’s report.
