I see all kinds of advertsising signs rgar use red/gree/blue LEDs as the picture elements. these are much brighter and offer better color than the LCDs we now have. Has any electronics firm announced planst to market home TVs with these displays?
OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) tvs are already here.
But at 11" diagonal, they’re very tiny. . .
I should add - some phones and portable media devices have been using OLED screens for a few years now, and it seems the technology has some distinct manufacturing advantages over LCD technology that might allow quicker development of more practical applications (bigger screens, cheaper prices). Although the biggest challenge is that right now the lifespan of an OLED pixel is about a quarter that of an LCD pixel.
