Armstrong cannot dig himself out. There is nothing, realistically, that he can say or do at this point. Sometimes you bury yourself too deep for any amount of shovelling. If he admits too much, he’s subject to lawsuit or criminal investigation. But if he lacks s single gram of appriopriate contrition he remains an asshole. A partial apology is not an apology. A partial apology is a lie.
Of course he’s going to try to do something in an effort to make some money, but the truth is he just can’t get this off him. He went all the way to the river with a busted hand, he’s showed his cards, and reality’s holding a straight flush. He’s throwing a Hail Mary pass but his team’s 12 points behind. Use whatever metaphor you want. He’s fucked.
I think the “he’s fucked” metaphor is the most appropriate.
I’m trying to fit the “he’s fucked” into a good metaphor, but I can only come up with:
Lance is a virgin girl being married off to a wealthy prince on condition of Lance’s virginity, but Lance screwed up and shagged a hot visiting footballer before the wedding. The first night of the honeymoon, the prince discovers - Lance’s fucked.
