When will you buy A Dance with Dragons?

I’m probably the only person around here who doesn’t know what this is. I’m guessing it’s part of the Game of Thrones series…?

No to your first statement; jjimm threadshat about “fantasy bollocks.”

Yes to your second; good guess! It’s the latest in the series begun by Game of Thrones, which is actually called A Song of Ice & Fire. I think they’re sticking with Game of Thrones for the whole TV series because it’s snappier. It’s not much of a spoiler to say that the “game” will continue beyond the first season/book.

I read the whole series not long before the TV show started & liked it a lot. Yes, GRRM takes his time; but I’m OK–I read a bunch of other stuff. In fact, I’ll be done rereading Gene Wolfe’s Wizard Knight & ready for something simpler & more straightforward.

(I almost never buy new hardbacks, but already ordered my copy on Amazon.)

I preordered it awhile back but probably won’t read it until I finish re-reading the other books.

I won’t worry about spoilers though. By the time I read the books, I’ll have forgotten them.

I wrote that as a slightly irritated statement about the assumption that anyone would know what the OP was on about, but returning to that post a few hours later, I see it was indeed a textbook threadshit, and for that I apologise.

If you don’t know what it is, then you may assume that you are not part of the intended audience.

I will pre-order it AGAIN on Amazon. What was the last time it was supposed to be coming out? '05? I don’t think I want it on my Kindle because with this series I spend a lot of time flipping back and forth and rereading parts.

Ditto.

Never. When it became obvious that George will never finish the series, and has lost whatever talent he originally had as an author, I sold my copies of the first three books and have never been tempted to go back.

I’ll buy it tomorrow, either at Target over lunch or at B&N after - the mister and I might make a night of it and get dinner, too. I’m also thinking of getting the Kindle version, just to have it, but I haven’t done that yet.

I believe the underside of a Centaur would be better classified as that.

I had read the first three books several years ago, forgotten about half of what happened, started re-reading them again earlier this year and am about a third of the way through Feast For Crows. I thought I’d be able to hold out until Dance With Dragons came out in paperback, but then I found out that my stepson has a copy on the way as a birthday gift so I’ll probably wind up borrowing it from him when he’s done. (And then I’ll buy my own paperback copy when it comes out. ;))

Well, I don’t even know how you folks remember what is going on. I don’t. I began to realize that a full re-read was going to have to happen for almost every book, so I figure that if GRRM actually finishes it, it will be a fun read.

Uh, I borrow books too, but why do you not want to give him your money? It sounds personal. When I borrow a book, I just do it to save money, not to avoid giving money to the author out of…any anger or anything.

Yep, it’s the next book. It’s pretty big news on the Dope, with the show and all the hype surrounding the series.

I’ve got about 100 pages left of AFfC. I gave up watching TV shows on my commute for the last couple weeks to reread the series so I bought them all through the Kindle app and I’ll add the new one to that tomorrow. I did not however book a day off and I’m sad that I wasn’t as smart as Feyrat

I don’t either! I think I’ll spend today on Wiki, to get up to speed.

I’m amazed at the details you folks can remember. I barely remember major plot points. Did you take notes? Re-read? Or just have exceptional memory?

I’m re-reading AFfC, and so I’ll buy it the second I finish.

Ditto, a few weeks ago, and I just got an Amazon email saying it’s on its way. I may not be able to jump right into it the moment the box arrives, though - I have several other books going right now, and think I’ll be able to resist temptation.

Probably.

Maybe…

I’m glad I’m not the only one! I read them all very quickly, and recently, but I get lost in the omnibus thread (who are they talking about? when did that happen?) I am a fast but not particularly careful reader.

I will probalby cave tomorrow and buy it on Kindle even though I’m only 3/4 through re-reading GoT.

I preordered it in Amazon on April 30 2011. It cost me 11 dollars and now it costs 18.
I have a kindle app in my smartphone. I am wating for someone to travel to the US… I want a kindle!

Im waiting to see what the price is going to be for the electronic book version, I dont expect to pay over thirty dollars for a paper hard cover, and break the paperback collection like I did with the Harry Potter series.

I’m still waiting on the paper back version of a girl who kicked a hornets next , I thought that was supposed to be released about two months ago.

ARGH! Is B&N on PST?? Why can’t I download this thing right this second?? It says my pre-order will be available on July 12, and it’s July 12 for me, dang it!
