Buying it today, but I’m so damn far behind on my re-read (middle-end of Clash of Kings) that I probably won’t start it until next weekend. ARG!
If only it worked that way around here.
So, I just got a package, and oh dear, I just remembered why I prefer paperbacks(other than cost), I fear I’m going suffocate while reading DwD.
Since my iPad was plugged in and turned off at midnight I expected to have to download the book while I was getting ready for work this morning but when I turned it on it was just THERE. It was so hard to go feed the dogs and get ready to go when the words were waiting.
I read all the way to work and lunch was diet coke and an apple on a bench in the sun (closest place to sit, walking time is not reading time) while continuing. I really hope my family isn’t expecting me to talk to them tonight.
I have it. $26.18 including tax at Borders. There wasn’t really a mad rush, but the cashier said she’s been selling them steadily–maybe a dozen by 9:30.
I got an extremely late start out of St. Louis and am in a hotel tonight. When they asked me if I need a wake-up call, I should have asked for a check-out time call. I’m waiting until after dinner to crack the book. See y’all in a week.
So I guess this isn’t the last book in the series? How many more are there supposed to be?
I’ll probably read the whole series eventually, but like several others have said, I’m holding off on it until the whole thing is finished.

Oh, you saucy little brown-shirted bastards.
Probably will wait for the paperback. Count me among those who have forgotten a lot of what happened in the earlier books.

There are supposed to be a total of 7. This is #5.
I checked my library website this morning and they had it! I reserved, just in case, but when I went in after work it was right there on the New Books shelf! I just finished the prologue…
Not the only one, no. In fact, the only reason I opened the thread was that the title was so presumptuous it made me curious.
Over at SFF World, Werthead (who has a credit in ADwD) has posted (in 4 parts) the story so far.
I ran it through the Readability app and printed it, and will read it before starting ADwD. He even includes the pre-history.
Good stuff! ![]()
There are also some early reviews at the site.
So, two more books, at the rate he’s been putting them out… I hope he’s young and healthy.
Neither, unfortunately. He’s 62 and pretty overweight.
My hope is that he’s over the hump–the middle of the story is always the hardest part to write. The first 3 books came out at a decent pace. And if HBO keeps the series going, that will put pressure on him.
Ah, who the hell am I kidding. Fat man will probably drop dead next week. At least he told HBO how it ends.
Maybe we could all pitch in to buy a StairMaster for GRRM…
Can we chain him to it until he finishes the last two books?
My plan: if the next book isn’t finished by July 2012, Terry Brooks is contracted to finish the series. Figure that ought to motivate him.
Motivate HIM? I’ll personally volunteer to be his life coach/cook/pharmacist/driver/bodyguard if that happens…
I would’ve said Piers Anthony, but he’ll be busy finishing Scott Lynch’s Gentleman Bastard series.
He’s already claimed he is not even going to start the next book until sometime next year.
