When you go to (x) restaurant, what is your favorite meal?

Sonic - breakfast toaster sandwich with egg, cheese, and bacon and tater tots
Longhorn - the small Renegade steak with baked potato
Arby’s - triple cheese and bacon and curly fries (that sandwich is amazing - has ranch on it too…mmmm)
any pizza place - pepperoni or at least some kind of meat or plain cheese
Locker Room (local STL bar) - fried cheddar cheese balls…also amazing! and whatever other greasy bar food I feel like

When I go somewhere I’m not familiar with, I usually enjoy things like chicken parmesan, french dip sandwiches, pizza, good burgers, most places I prefer mashed or baked over french fries.

[ul][li]Macaroni Grill – penne pasta with roasted garlic cream sauce; and, of course, their bread[/li][li]Sweetwater Tavern – sauteed filet mignon tips with tequila lime cream on penne pasta, their kick-ass bread basket, one of their in-house beers, chocolate waffle (though I’m usually too full for dessert)[/li][li]Cantina D’Italia – penne pasta with alfredo sauce[/li][li]Austin Grill – taquitos (hand–rolled flour tortillas stuffed with spicy smoked chicken, cheeses, and roasted garlic mashed potatoes); also, their queso rocks[/li][li]Mediterranean Breeze – grilled cheese and onion rings[/li][li]Chipotle – burrito (or burrito bol) with barbacoa, cheese, cilantro-lime rice, and sour cream[/li][li]Busara – panang chicken[/ul][/li]Ok, now I’m hungry.

For the past 2 years, I have been maintaining a 75 lb weight loss, it makes me a very mindful eater. I cut out pizza and fast food completely and I don’t go to a ton of chain places. I still go out to eat, but I usually try to make healthy choices as much as possible. I am a special order fanatic - “on the side” is my mantra.

Chipotle - Chicken bol, no beans, rice, 2 scoops of pico de gallo, a little hot salsa, 1/2 serving of guacamole on the side, tons of lettuce, big tea with lemon

Favorite sushi place - order of seaweed salad, sashimi 1/2 yellow tail, 1/2 salmon, tons of green tea

Purple Cafe and Wine bar - 1/2 purple chopped salad with blackened salmon, no bacon, dressing on the side

Favorite local indian food - Chana masala, no rice, side order of whole wheat roti, no butter

Outback - Salmon, no butter, double steamed vegetables, no butter

Maggiano’s Little Italy - 1/2 gnocchi (box up half right away to take home), salad

cafeteria downstairs at work - small cup of soup, 1/2 turkey sandwich on whole grain, dijon mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion

Macaroni Grill - build your own pasta - whole wheat pasta, spicy marinara, broccoli, garlic, spinach

Subway - turkey wrap, dijon mustard, spinach, tomatoes, onions, a tiny bit of oil and vinegar, salt, pepper

At Lincoln Uni I have The Shed. A “Ranch Burger*” and a pint of Guinness cures all problems for at least 30 minutes.

Cheeseburger with onion rings, BBQ sauce and potato wedges

The Sirloin Marsala, Italian salad, Spaghetti Pomodoro with a glass of Coppola’s Claret at Carraba’s

I’m a pretty adventurous eater so I don’t have many “favorites”

Red Lobster - Shrimp scampi (and I only go during Endless Shrimp)

My favorite chinese place Schezuan Empire - either beef, shrimp or 4 treasures but always in spicy ginger and garlic sauce, usually with hot and sour soup and steamed dumplings.

Texas Roadhouse (only steakhouse I go to now) - Sirloin, medium rare with sauteed onions, steamed veggies, rice pilaf

Red Hot Lovers (best Chicago style dog and it’s not even in Chicago) - a mighty dog with ketchup, pickles, grilled onions and raw onions and fries

Ottawa - Daphne & Victor’s (now gone) Pecan Burger with Mornay Sauce - heavenly

  • Buffalo Charlie’s - Caesar salad with Asiago! Who’d’a thunk it? Fah to parmesan.
  • Haveli - Indian - Butter Chicken mmmmmmmmmmm
  • The Ritz - ohhhhh The Ritz - Gnocchi Alfredo for dinner - ambrosia - and Italian Trifle for dessert. Nectar of the gods. But they stopped serving both, I think :frowning:
Pretty much any Thai - Tom Ka Gai soup
Nate’s - borscht and latkes and wonderful Rideau Bakery rye bread

Calgary - Indochine - crème brûlée which is in itself a Deadly Sin
There was a Punjabi restaurant which seems to be gone whose Malai Kofta was delicious beyond belief

Victoria - Pho Vy for Vietnamese whatever
I gotta get out more

Temasek, Malaysian - Beef Rendang (my most ordered meal of all time)
Woodlands, Vegetarian Indian - the lunch buffet
Neelam, Indian - the non-vegetarian thali
Pho Ben, Vietnamese - either the Pho or the Spicy Duck Noodle Soup
Subway - the meatball sub (I add some Nando’s peri-peri sauce)
Monkey Drum, Thai - Massaman Curry
Chinta Ria, Singaporean - Sassy’s Duck
Oporto, Portuguese chicken franchise - the Big Bondi Burger with chili sauce
Hog’s Breath Cafe, franchise steakhouse - blackened prime rib

The best Chinese near me is actually at the pub. I almost always have the Garlic and Chili Lamb. At my local Thai place I usually have two different entree plates and a huge pot of tea.

Which one in Wheaton – University Blvd or Price Ave? The Post site says they’re both in Wheaton.

At Swenson’s in Akron, OH. A Galleyboy, an order of zucchini sticks with a side of ranch, and a 32oz California. mmmmmm.

The one not on University, it must be Price then. It’s near the metro, behind a Safeway and off of Georgia. Just a hole in the wall, but man is it good. When I go home on leave it’s the first meal I have.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Pho75.

I get the pho (vietnamese noodle soup).

Of course, all they serve is pho, so there’s not really much of a choice.
(Addendum: I get the pho with fatty brisket and round steak. Dee-licious.)

Uncle Bill’s Pancake House: corned beef hash, two eggs over easy, & toast

Other than that, I don’t really have a “regular” meal anywhere. We eat out a lot, but not at a lot of chains, and I like a lot of different things. I just can’t resist the corned beef hash when we go to Uncle Bill’s!

Any Italian restaurant: chicken parmesan. I loves me a good chicken parmesan.
Any Japanese restaurant: hibachi chicken, double fried rice. I loves me some fried rice.
Any pizza place: pepperoni. I loves me some pepperoni pizza.
Any burger joint: double cheeseburger (extra cheese if I know the place is stingy with the cheese), plain and dry, with fries.

When I was growing up near Denver, my dad would sometimes take the family to
“Cathay Post” Which was an American legion post that had a dining room open to the public. It was good Chinese food, located in what is now a very gentrified area, but at the time was pretty much the depths of skid row. (Market or Blake Street, up around 30th or 34th street I think) They had CCTV surveillance of the parking lot in the 60s.

Best of all was their Almond Duck. Boneless, crispy, not at all fatty, and yummilishious.

For years I would order almond duck in Chinese restaurants, only to be horribly disappointed in the bone filled, greasy nastiness that was served. I have given up.

Thanks for the info. I’ll give the place a try; I appreciate good Chinese food.

Good ethnic food, IMnshO, is usually determined by whether the restaurant is in the appropriate ethnic neighborhood and/or many of its customers share the ethnic background. Case study: Some months ago I tried a Chinese restaurant in an upscale shopping plaza, and it was “meh.” Then I tried another one about a mile away right next to a Asian grocery, and it was “banzai!”

My wife and I are both good cooks. Consequently, we only go out for things that are impossible to make at home, stuff like:
-fried clams
steak aupoivre

  • veal a la milanese
    -hon su gai
I am geberally disappointed with most restaurant food-most of the time, the stuff we cook at home is better.

In Providence, RI:

At Tokyo: Tore no tetsua age (I think; it’s been years)
At Angkor Wat: Nime chow followed by Chicken Be Bong

In Round Rock, TX (just north of Austin), at La Margarita:

Large Spicy Queso, two Diet Cokes with lime, and Beef Fajitas for one. Easily enough food for two, eighteen bucks. The best fajitas I’ve ever had.

Damn, I miss that place.
