I know actors move on and get contracts to make movies or go to other shows, but he was literally my favorite character and had so much potential for further development.
I know this is a cop out because knowing Joss Whedon it was bound to happen, but killing off Wash, probably along with any chance of a Firefly show continuation, in the movie Serenity had me screaming at the screen in the movie theater.
He had just retired and was sitting around his house, looking at a golf course brochure, playing with the putter & golf ball game he got as a gift, having a coffee, then he goes into the bathroom and all you hear is a single gunshot.
I did not see that coming. I actually gasped and nearly started crying. I had to remind myself that he’s an actor playing a role and he’s probably playing with his grandkids right now. Still messed me right up.
Fans of Game of Thrones who read the books somehow convinced Larry Williams, a video reviewer who had never read the books, to record himself watching episode 9 of season 1, the one where Ned gets his head chopped off.
His reaction is hilarious. Warning, his language is not at all work-safe.
Years ago I was really into The Young & The Restless, but one thing that made me walk away from show was the writers’ decision to not only kill my favorite female character, Colleen Carlton that is, but to have her heart be given to Victor, a guy who doesn’t care who is stomped on in order for him to get whatever it is that he wants!
God bless you always!!!

Probably the most shocking onscreen death of a character was Derek Reese from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Particularly the way it’s handled. He gets shot to death in the middle of the firefight and the action continues on for several minutes before the other main characters have a chance to take it in.
If anyone gets a chance to watch it on DVD, watch the commentary section because Summer Glau was part of the discussion and she hadn’t been part of the filming of that scene and she clearly hadn’t realized it was going to happen, so she completely freaks out when it does.
