When you're a cat, you're a cat all the way

Didn’t Frank Sinatra sing a song with those lyrics? I can’t find it.

Wasn’t it “When you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet all the way” from West Side Story?

This is what I thought of when I read the title.

Was it about felines? Or about “cats” in the Dennis Miller sense of just a groovy dude?

When you’re a cat,
You’re a cat all the way
From your first taste of milk
To your ninth dyin’ day.

That’s got to be it. I haven’t seen WSS in decades, and Sinatra used the word ‘cat’. Obviously I conflated them.

When you’re a cat,
You’re a family man;
You’ve got thousands of kits
And you eat from a can.

You never sit still,
You’re always out there prowlin’ (bumbum)
Chasin’ the birds,
Or on the fence a-howlin’ (bumbumbum).

Your cat is probably sneaking in to your room at night and slowly replacing words in your memories with the word “cat.”

Obligatory cat photo.

Gee, Officer Krupke,
I’m down on my knees
My father had heartworms
My mother had fleas…

I just pet a cat named Meowria…

“I feel kitty,
oh so kitty.
I feel kitty, and witty, and bright.
And I pity
any cat who isn’t me tonight.”

I think you’re thinking of the Ted Nugent song. “Boogie Fever.”

When You’re a Goat

I’m thinking of naming a cat John Malkovich.

Make of our lives…nine…lives…

That sounds like one who was the quintessential CAT–our tomcat Archie.

Beating up his rivals? Siring kittens? Fending off dogs? Keeping up his image of scorn-the-human? Terrorizing the local mouse community? Arch did all that and more.

Sylvester - say it loud and it’s very stirring
Say it soft and it’s almost like purring
Sylvester, Sylvester, Sylvester, Sylvester!

The scary thing is, I’ve never seen West Side Story. Don’t ask me where I pulled that one out of.
