Where Am I Going Wrong With My Cats?

I never thought it was that we had too many cats, for a house our size. We have not been having much trouble with the litter box before, and then this last weekend, it just blew up on me.

I would have thought, that from the tone of the OP, it was obvious that i was generally the only one who changed the box. There’s four other people here and two of them will under no circumstances change the box. Mom can’t change it since she has been sick, that leaves me and my dad, he scoops it out sometimes, and when i change it is a full change.

I hope to get to petco this weekend, and then i can get my hands on something for it.

I’d like to thank you, postcards, for absolutely NOTHING.

couple of suggestions here

  1. Get the autoscooper litterbox. not the little one. get the big one ($180 at petco.com, cheaper at the local store). My 2 cats (about 32lbs worth) fill the container in 3-4 days. cleanup takes about 5 minutes

  2. get another one

  3. figure 400 to 500 sq ft of living space per cat. I’ve had 2 in a 450 sq ft apt but they really clung to each other so it wasn’t a problem. my current 2 would kill me before they destroyed the apt if they were confined that much.

  4. Also try a concentrated solution of Oxyclean on the areas that have been marked. you may need to use a blacklight to find everyspot but it will be worth it. Until they can’t smell the urine, they will continue to go there.

  5. If you catch them in the act of peeing somewhere else and the litterbox is reasonably clean, then pick them up, scold them, and give them a single quick smack on their hindquaters as you bring them over to the litterbox. put them in the litterbox and don’t let them leave until the’ve gone in there. Be sure to be cuddly with them later. you don’t want them to think of you as the mean bitch while you retrain them.
That’s about all i can think of at the moment.
