Nice. But, did he/she lose by more than expected (say, average of reputable polls in last two weeks)?
Late-in-the-race, high-quality poll:
“There’s better news for Minnesota’s Democratic incumbent Secretary of State Steve Simon, who leads Republican challenger [and full-out election denier] Kim Crockett 47% to 41% with 12% undecided.”
Simon ended up beating Crockett 54.6% to 45.4%. So, he went up from about 6% lead in polling to about 9% in the election – i.e., more undecideds did indeed break for Simon. Nice.
(ETA: In addition, what BlinkingDuck said – thanks!)
She did!
Governor - The Dem won 52.3% vs 44.6%
Attorney General - the Dem won by 50.4% to 49.6%. The Repub candidate was a little MAGA but hid it.
The self proclaimed election denier in chief lost ![]()
Secretary of State - The Dem won by 54.6% to 45.4%. She came across as full MAGA nuts.
So, in MN you can see a relationship between MAGAness and losing by more.
Ok - Looking at it again it might not be so clear cut. The Republican for Governor was likely hurt by his abortion stance - he was on record saying he was against abortion even for rape.
The reason the Attorney General was so tight was because he was the official most under fire for Covid and the 2020 mass demonstrations. He is also Black. So maybe not so clear cut…But BUT for Secretary of State, the Republican was very MAGA and the Dem candidate won by the most %.
It’s actually fine Spanish, “soy un perdedor” means “I’m a habitual loser”.
“Soy el perdedor” would refer to an individual game or instance; “soy un fracaso” would mean “I’m a failure”, “soy un desgraciado” is “I was born under a bad star, then things got worse”, “soy desgraciado” is the kind of thing said by someone who is trying to commit suicide by soda, not realizing that’s a really slow way to die. Then we have “eres un desgraciado”, which is actually closer to “you’re a disgrace” than to “you’re unlucky”…
Hi, I’m alive!
Better post than mine ![]()
Kim Crockett was even BEYOND full MAGA nutszoid…she was caught on tape questioning why DISABLED people should be allowed to vote!
It’s interesting. It could be like glimpsing into the future of 10-20 years if election deniers took firm control…Disabled people voting? They aren’t productive! No vote for them!
The Crybaby strategy has become nothing more than The Boy Who Cried Wolf. So sorry, Donald. Sad.
This post was music to my eyes. ![]()
She has all the bonafides of a charismatic cult leader and femme fatale in a soap opera. From a democrat Buddhist to right wing Christian republican her acting career should be taking off in as the shitstorm churns
Last night’s votes from Maricopa County broke pretty blue, even with 10k in person votes (which had been going 65/35 red). Not looking so good for the last major election denier (I’m ignoring Alabama).
There is a cure for Election Denialism. We can run ads “Do you suffer from ED? Try Rationality, available without a prescription.”
Didn’t stop Trump from claiming the 2016 election was rigged.
So he said the 2016 election was rigged, even though he won? I thought that was after the 2020 election when he lost after being ahead. He didn’t understand that mail-in ballots were still being counted.
No.
That requires self-awareness.
Hi, I’m alive!
I’m going to temporarily stop this thread in its tracks to welcome you on your triumphant return! You’ve been sorely missed and yes, many of us sincerely believed something unfortunate had happened to you (we’ve lost several long-time posters in last year or so).
So welcome back! I for one hope you stay for a while ![]()
Kari Lake in AZ, who is trailing in the governor’s race but not by much, is already grimly hinting that if she loses it will be fraud.
The same for Kelly Chewbaka (Tshibaka) in Alaska. She has a very slim lead over Murkowski, but there are still thousands of absentee and ranked-choice votes to be counted. Chewbaka is already asking for donations to mount a recount challenge.
Minnesota. We had the self-proclaimed ‘Election-denier-in chief’ soundly lose.
As well as that guy running for governor. What is it with doctors thinking they can be lawmakers? At least the guy claiming he was under fire in the military was shown for the liar he is.
Hi, I’m alive!
wow…I’ve been worried about you.
And how did you manage to live for the past year or so without reading the Dope every day?
Welcome Back!!
Deniers get in a tizzy about ‘how is it possible for Dems to get more votes than Trump/republicans’.
In itself, their inability to accept such a scenario is illogical. But I was reminded today that Clinton beat Trump by 3 million votes in 2016, which makes their logic even more illoigical!
Reading the thread title triggers a song cue:one might say that Trump is holding out for a hero?
It’s actually fine Spanish, “soy un perdedor” means “I’m a habitual loser”.
Nava, great to hear from you, and thank you for the correction!
It’s nice to see you back and posting, @Nava!
First off, welcome back @Nava, it’s good to see you again. ![]()
In Washington State one of the races was for Secretary of State. It was a big deal. Here’s why.
For 58 years(?!) that position has been held by Republicans. It’s the top election authority in the state. The last person to be elected to the position was Kim Schrier, who left her position to work for the Biden administration. (Yes, she was a Republican.) Kim, by the way, ran for the House as a Democrat in this election and won. She’s pretty much the definition of “moderate”.
Anyway, Steve Hobbs, a Democrat, was appointed in her place when she left. He ran for election to continue to do the job. The Republicans couldn’t even get someone through the primaries this year and he was opposed by an independent, Julie Anderson, who campaigned on making the elections more secure. Considering the election system in the state has been pretty great, I read that as an election denier dog whistle.
As of yesterday, she officially lost and conceded, Hobbs won, and the state has its first Democrat in that position for almost 6 decades. I see that as a big sign that people are fighting back against the efforts to ruin our democracy in the name of fighting non-existent fraud.
