I see there’s another Ask the Muslim Guy thread around. They’re all so rational and reassuring aren’t they? Moslem extremists aren’t representative of Islam. The Taliban’s version of Islam is a perversion. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I’ve become disturbed by the threat of biological terrorism to the point where I find the philosophical attitude to be temporarily…unnecessary. I live in a country a great distance from the U.S. and I have to say that my opinions on the “war” are very Ralph Naderish. That is, U.S. bombing will only bring the country grief. It’s not the right strategy. However, I would like this thread to differ from other threads in which questions about Islam have been asked. There is no need for political correctness or niceness here. Anything goes.
Here is my question: The absence of women in film clips of the Middle East, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Israel, Iran etc is almost surreal. Where are they all? Recent news stories on protests in Pakistan are prime examples. It is possible to watch TV news all night and not see one middle-eastern woman and yet the Taliban is not in power in Pakistan or Palestine for that matter. This question has never seemed very bright to me for some reason but I’ve decided to ask it now because the time has come.
