Where are all these FLIES coming from??

Yes, it’s summer in Australia, therefore it’s also FLY season. We begrudgingly share our oxygen and our sweat with the little fuckers…it comes with living in the best place in the world yannow??

My problem is not with the flies outside (which, surprisingly have been really innocuous this year) but rather with the flies INSIDE MY HOUSE who have been giving me the shits this last week or so.

They’re not flying around, they’re just crawling up and down my windows…on the INSIDE. Yesterday I must have sprayed the buggers (at least ten at a time) probably seven times…today I left the house at 7am, and on my return this evening the window was again populated with fucken flies.

My windows and doors are closed, there is no gap under the doors to get in, I’ve got no cadavers under the floorboards or other rotting meat in the house anywhere, but still the filthy little turds are out to get me…

Help!!

I noticed the last four or five years the flies were considerably reduced than the normal plague, perhaps in response to the drought breaking. But this year the annoying little bastards have returned in full force.

If they are just crawling, does that make them Walks instead of Flies?

I had something like that in an apartment when I was in college. We tried leaving the windows open. Still had flies. Closed the windows. Still had flies. Tried killing the flies. Still had flies. This went on for months. Turned out there was a bag of rotten potatoes on a cabinet we never used, left there by the previous tenant. Let me clarify that. It was a big bag of maggots by the time we found it. Or as my friend said “Hey Joey, come here, I found that smell, there’s a bag of rotten potatoes…wait, the potatoes are moving”

The funny thing is, we were friends with them and every time we went over to their house towards the last few months the kitchen stunk and we noticed the flies. I didn’t really want to move in because of the smell. It wasn’t that dirty, they kept it clean so I thought it was just the house the smelled bad. Then we found the potatoes one day and it cleared up. Luckily that cabinet had a wood shelf that slid in and out so we could pull that entire part out and toss it since it had ruined the wood.

Anyways. Check your dry storage for signs of maggots as well. They don’t just show up on meat.

Use a fogger & clear the house all at once.

Yeah, there’s a source somewhere. They’ll lay eggs on anything organic, so it could be the kitchen trash or something stored somewhere that went funky. I had that happen once when I put some compostable stuff in the regular trash and didn’t take it out soon enough. Gross! I found a maggot just tooling along across the kitchen floor and didn’t put it together until the morning when the rest were flying around the house when I woke up. Ew, Ew, Ew. Now I put organic stuff in a small bag in the freezer until I take the bigger kitchen trash out.

Maybe check behind the stove or fridge or somewhere a fruit or vegetable could have fallen and rolled under.

eggs.

flies will lay their eggs in lots of places. i do enjoy a moment of puzzlement in spring when the grass is starting to grow and you walk into a spot that sounds like you’ve walked into a swarm of bees (though too early for them) and you are in a fly hatch. i’ve also found they like to lay eggs in the ridge vent of my attic because i find them up there in spring.
