Where are all those "web pages for life"? Gone. So who's life were we measuring with?

One after another, I’ve been tossed around trying to get a “free for life” web page to last for 6 months. The Free ISP’s are dying like flies, and so you have to move your email. The free homesteads too. Some that still exist don’t let you reference pages from a place like the SDMB, so you can’t even show people your pictures easily.
So now I’ve signed up for Geocities, which was bought by Yahoo, and AGAIN they brag how it’s “for life”. Can’t the FTC make them specify that more exactly, like “for life or until our next stock offering dies next month.”

Why is this in the Pit, Mr. Meister?

Unless it’s a rant, it’s a GQ if I ever saw one.

If it’s a rant, it rates very low. 2 or 3, if the Bulgarian judges are being generous.

Anyway, I have a dead Geocities page that’s been up since 1996, and I have no means of updating it, or even deleting it (which I’d like to do). It’s just there, in the aether.

I made a geocities page one summer, and I can’t even find the bugger :frowning:

Waddaya want for nothin’, rubber bisquit?
