Where are the Good Wii Games?

Some games are slightly more, if they’ve been just translated from the Japanese.
I’d pay 1500 for Earthbound…

You can also store 'em on a SD card. Can’t play them if they’re stored, but you can keep them there for later.

I agree it’s not all that small, unless you’re only buying the Wii to download games from previous generations.

I didn’t realise that you could delete them and download them again for free, makes the smaller drive space even less of an issue.

So after I get my Wii internet capable (which sounds easy), what can I do with it other than buy stuff at a Wii store or download games? Are there multi-player online games yet?

I know Smash Brawl is, and I suspect that Mario Kart is as well.

You suspect correctly. Mario Kart is online.

I’ve only just started playing it but can highly recommend Okami. The gameplay isn’t bad but the art and music are absolutely incredible - they have to be seen to be believed.

Hm. Dead Rising Wii coming out.

Okami is fantastic, I just forgot about it cause it was a PS2 port.

But it worries me that Capcom didn’t announce an American release date at E3.

Man, I gotta get back into Dead Rising on my 360. This Mario Kart addicition is killing me.

Whee, Wii! Thanks to the Wii Fit thread and the posting of Wii Alerts I managed to order a console and I just got the email that it’s shipping!

I like puzzle type games, like Myst, or puzzle adventure games where the adventure part isn’t too hard (i.e. you have to use all your weapons and life hacking on some Big Boss and die a thousand times before you can actually complete the level. I like a little easy killing. Any games like this to look for?

Yes, but I haven’t found much point to bothering with online play. Since there’s no way of really communicating online, it tends to feel very much like playing against the computer. ‘Course, it might help if I had some friend codes…and a wireless router ^^’

Wii does suffer a bit when it comes to good games, sadly. There’s the obvious quick and cheap stuff just out to make a buck (even if some of the games are fun), some truly fun and well done games, although not all of them take full advantage of the hardware coughbrawlcough, but only a handful of games that’ll keep you going for any real length of time. It’s a great party platform, but there’s not much else going for it, especially with no Squeenix games for download.

(Did I read right? FFXII is gonna be on the 360 too? Sweet! BTW, for whoever asked, it’s been a mix of fantasy and sci-fi since at least VI, although how far to each side has varied from game to game.)

Zack and Wiki is supposed to be the best adventure game on the Wii. Sam and Max: Season 1 should be out soon too.

As for puzzle adventures that aren’t too hard, you can’t go wrong with Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman (which comes out in the fall).

It’s not just suffering a bit. It’s suffering badly. Every day I look at the latest reviewed Wii games on several major websites and 3 out of 5 Wii games don’t even break the 5/10 scale and I’d say 2 of 5 dont break the 4/10 scale. Wii apologists like JB will be in here to list of SMG, MP3 and LZTP to “prove” that the Wii has great games but the truth is that the Wii is loaded with overwhelmingly pathetic games with the occasional bright star. The other systems that the Wii is “trouncing” have their % of shitty games but no where near the numbers put up by the Wii.

To answer your OP there will be 2-3 good Wii games per year and the rest will suck just like the GC and N64 before it. The rest are totally disposable.

(Yes I own a Wii)

So by that logic you’re saying there are only 6 good Wii games currently?

Yes.

I went to Metacritic and looked at each console’s game list sorted by score, because I thought this was bupkis. Turns out you’re right, at least going strictly by the numbers. The following are the number of games that rate a 75 or better:

Wii - 43/232 = 18.5%
360 - 166/424 = 39.2%
PS3 - 81/184 = 44.0%

There’s a few potential explanations for these numbers. One is in the analysis E-Sabbath linked to here, which says that producers don’t know what to do with the Wii, so they assign their third- and fourth-string development teams to their Wii games while the 360 and PS3 get the first-string teams. Thus the 360 and PS3 get the good games while the Wii gets the crap. This I think is the most plausible, but I’m a Wii believer.

Heck, it’s possible that you’re right and the Wii just sucks. I don’t think so, though. The Nintendo games are consistently excellent (okay, Mario Kart has had mixed reviews) because they put their first-string teams on the Wii. Metroid Prime 3 is easily comparable to Halo and Mass Effect in game quality. The Wii can play good games, but nobody is making any except Nintendo.

What are you still doing on Mario Kart? I got it at launch and played the wheels off of it for about a week, and I’ve played it maybe 3 times since then. I found virtually zero replay value in it after unlocking all the tracks. The online game is a joke since you cannot communicate with your opponents.

So it’s not at all possible someone can actually find enjoyment in the game because you can’t?

How in the world did you get that out of my post? I asked him what he’s still doing so that maybe I can do it and rediscover some enjoyment in the game . . .

. . . truly a bizarre interpretation of my post . . .

Not so bizarre, but I do apologize for misinterpreting it. I read it as “Why are you still playing it? It’s not that interesting,” rather than “You’re still getting fun out of it? How so?”

Oh, I guess the wording is a little weird. But the opening question of my post is in earnest. I don’t ask a lot of rhetorical/snarky questions online and I guess that tends to throw people off.
