Where are the helicopters going and coming from?

Some days, we see helicopters flying along the north shore (not over the water) about every 1/2 hour. These do not appear to be military nor coast guard copters. They fly relatively higher than many copters that we see from time to time. They appear to be almost on a schedule. A ferry of some sort? Last week one day we saw about 10 flights. I doubt they’re sight-seeing tours, as they fly high and quickly. Where are they coming from? Where are they going? Not coming from Meigs. Not going to Glenview Naval Air Station. Going to Great Lakes? From where? Any ideas?

Traffic copters?

Doubt it. There are seldom traffic reports for Sheridan Rd. north of Chicago. And reporting on the Edens or other expressways would require them to fly over them.

There are a bunch of charter service companies in the area - wonder if maybe they’re from them? Some charter companies are based out of Chicago Executive Airport (Wheeling), and Schaumburg also has companies that fly out of their airport. Considering the large companies that are around here, they could be ferrying executives. I’m just guessing though - I really can’t find anything concrete.

Could there be a new Helicopter Flight School in the area?

Helicopter sightseeing tours? They start at Chicago Executive Airport (Pal-Waukee) and the Baha’i Temple and then Northwestern is probably on the route.

This makes sense. Thanks as I was wondering about them too.

Are they different helicopters or just one or two making a lot of trips?

I’m not sure how anyone would be able to answer that question. You can’t see numbers on the aircraft from the ground. :dubious:
