Where are "Trieste" and "Alvin"?

I tuned into the National Geographic Channel last night, and saw the bathyscaphe Trieste and the DSV Alvin on display somewhere. The show was about underwater exploration and working and living underwater in general, and I only saw passing mention of the Trieste. I don’t remember exaxtly how Trieste was displayed, but the camera panned right and Alvin was suspended from the ceiling.

I came in late, so I don’t know where this was. Were these the actual vehicles? Or were they just fiberglass display replicas? Where are the real Trieste and Alvin? (For that matter, where are Cousteau’s “Diving Saucer” and “Sea Flea” mini-subs?)

"Trieste is currently on display at the Washington Navy Yard museum. "

See here.

I was looking for Alvin on the site of its current owners (WHOI), but the link’s broken.

Could Alvin be still in service?

Cousteau’s mini-subs used to be located in the “Living Sea” museum aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. But I don’t see any mention of the Cousteau museum on their website anymore.

This reminds me of “George Washington’s Axe”. It’s the very one with which he chopped down the cherry tree. Oh, it’s had a dozen new heads and two doaen new handles since he owned it; but it’s still in fine shape!

I opened this thread all set to tell you about Italian geography and cartoon chipmunks. How the heck was I supposed to know it was about undersea exploration craft, Captain Nemo?

No, no. Captain Nemo’s submersible was Nautilus. :stuck_out_tongue:
