[hijack] CJ I see you’re at it again - stop it [hijack/]
Two posts, 7 minutes apart, 4 days ago, on Sunday morning to be precise. And your point is?
CJ
Maybe you were mensa be together.
:D:D:D:D
Sigh, I think all of us (besides those who are hitched or have a hitch pending) suffer from reasonably similar problems- I seek a nerdling spawning groung too, but my problem is “not geeky enough for certified dorks, but FAR too geeky for anybody else…”
I tread the fine line between dating guys who (true story) i have learned C++ just to be able to stay in the conversation with vs. guys who think that anise is a made up word (it’s a spice dammit, a spice!!)
I was sorta hoping that Mr. Right would fall like manna from the heavens (though I suppose the 1st aid required shortly thereafter would be a pain in the ass) but if you find a quicker or more feasible alternative, let me know!
Have you tried the SCA? Worked for me. As Daerlyn said, “just do things that attract intelligent non-superficial people.” They get a lot of those in the SCA.
There’s a great novel called “Geek Love”, by Katherine Dunn, national book award nominee. It’s about a circus couple who, in order to enhance their income at the sideshow, decide that she will imbibe lots of toxic, even radioactive, stuff whenever she’s pregnant. Sure enough, each delivery results in a highly deformed, gifted, freak-show bonanza that eventually calls them ‘ma’ and ‘pa’. Even better, their plan pays off and their kids make them rich. Also, the book discusses the “original” meaning of the word ‘geek’. [Don’t ask.]
Sorry, this might not be much help to your love life, but the title was so apropos I just had to share.
What worked for this geek girl…
…don’t do anything. Yup, ya heard me. Don’t do anything. As others have said: just be who you are. Being who you are imparts to others that you’re confident in yourself, and that confidence will attract others.
Also, it seems to me a lot of people get so caught up in the “I gotta have a date/mate/partner/whatever” idea and in the looking that they no longer see anyone who may be right under their noses. Try not to fall into that trap… either by looking too hard, or getting so involved in something that you forget to look around once in a while.
