factcheck.org is the only one I know of. The problem is that with issues like SS privatization when you read info it could be and is subtly manipulated to make one option or another appear appealing (SS privitization articles for example manipulate market returns, economic growth, alternative options, life expectancy etc based on which idealogue was reporting on it). So where can a person go to actually find unbiased information? The news media by and large just seems to put two people who manipulate it from different angles to support one idealogy or another and that really isn’t good enough.
BTW: I seem to recall that factcheck has had some accuracy issues in the past.
You can get “unbiased” at any number of news outlets. In practice, this means that they will take each “side” seriously, even if one -or both!- don’t deserve it.
I say look for “fair”. Good analysts will let you know their final stance on an issue while leaving room for disagreement by considering other points of view.
Another group is vote-smart.org: http://www.vote-smart.org/index.htm
From Wikipedia:
Project Vote Smart (PVS) is a non-profit, non-partisan research organization that collects and distributes information on candidates for public office in the United States. It covers candidates and elected officials in five basic areas: background information, issue positions (via the NPAT), voting records, campaign finances, and interest group ratings. This information is distributed via their web site, a toll-free phone number, and print publications (most notably, the Voter’s Self Defense Manual, copies of which are available for free at in many libraries in the U.S. during election years).
