Where can I find a good outdoors knife?

WRT saws: The best saws included as part of a knife are those in the Victorinox-made Swiss Army Knives. They are true doublecut saw blades that cut on the push and pull strokes. They will cut through any branch that isn’t thicker than the blade is long very quickly. They also work extremely well on bone. I favor the lockblade models for safety reasons. I own a Rucksack and a model similar to the Atlas that incudes scissors as well as pliers. I carry the Rucksack as my hunting knife during deer season and the Atlas is in my briefcase each day I also have one of their one-hand Trailmasters which is very similar to the Rucksack save that it has a phillips-head screwdriver in place of the corkscrew and a hole in the blade to allow one-hand opening. The blade, incidentally, is of the partially serrated pattern you favor.

Aaaah yes…The Raven. A wicked-looking knife, but more a collector’s piece than utilitarian.

Have you checked out a Woodsman’s Pal ? Sounds like it might be a good fit, even though it doesn’t have a serrated edge

The Woodman’s Pal is a great tool for clearing brush, it’s kind of a machete with benefits. It’s not so good for fine work that you would want for collecting samples.

But they are better for many applications than just a machete. The hook really allows you to wail away at things without the tool bouncing around. It also makes your arm very sore by the end of the day.

I don’t actively collect much anymore, but these vendetta knives caught my eye. These look like okay knives, but I think I’ll start scouting around for a vintage example. The basic design of the modern examples should perform well as a general purpose utility knife.

Mora knives by Frosts and KJ Eriksson are one of the best fixed blade outdoors knives out there. Economical too.
