Mrs. Bernse wants an old fashioned, hand crank ice cream maker. After doing a fair amount of searching, I found one but it looks kind of cheap and flimsy… I think the name was Danviar or something like that.
ANYHOO… I may have to settle for that one but I would prefer one made out of metal.
…and if I had a dime for every time my grandparents used us 7 grandkids as unpaid crankers on hot days, I could get a yummy pint of Ben & Jerry’s easy.
Too rich for your budget? Maybe a plastic one is looking better?
When you say “old-fashioned,” are you looking for an antique or you just like a certain design? (I always thought those were made like wooden buckets.)
Keep searching – if it ain’t on the net, nobody’s got it!
Musicat, I appreciate your looking but I do not want an electric one. I can buy those everywhere. (Well, not everywhere… but you know) I specifically want a hand crank one, specifically and old fashioned style, hand crank ice cream maker.
Not necessarily an antique, but of the same style at least.
I may have to settle for the plastic jobbie I guess.
Just poked around the Cumberland website and the ice cream maker isn’t listed. It is however on page 23 of the Summer 2002 catalog in front of me. You can contact them through the info on their website.

You could probably build one, if you were that determined. This isn’t exactly a lunar lander we’re talking about. Try flipping through back issues of Polular Mechanics, Mother Earth News or just your local public libraries.
That one funneefarmer found at Icecream Outlet, the hand-crank one, looks exactly like what you want. Kinda pricey at US$130, but you gotta pay for your thrills. Start working up those arm muscles.
You are going to invite us over for a tasting, right?
And there are more than a few of them out there on ebay for under $100US.
I’ve never seen/heard of one made of metal (wouldn’t that get really cold for the person holding/cranking it) but the wooden ones work reasonably well. (Or my dad’s always has.)
