Couple months ago I stumbled across an old board game in a thrift store called Groucho TV Quiz, that’s based on Groucho Marx’s TV show, You Bet Your Life (see a pic here, listed under You Bet Your Life). It looked cool, so I forked over a dollar and brought it home. It has, I think, a couple minor pieces missing, but all the major stuff is there. Problem is, one of the things that’s missing is the instructions on how to play the game. The setup looks fairly complex, so I couldn’t quite guess at the right way to play.
I did the obvious and emailed Pressman (the manufacturer), asking if they knew where I could get the instructions. They emailed back a polite note (right away; kudos to their customer service) stating that their records don’t go back anywhere near 1952. So I’m at a loss. I’d like to play, but I dunno how. Anyone know of another avenue to pursue (preferably no-cost) to find instructions?
I also bought an old board game sans instructions. I searched eBay & sent emails to both sellers and buyers of the same game. For buyers, I bookmarked or watched the game till it was sold. One very nice buyer faxed me the complete set of instructions. Another person mailed them. I had offered to pay, but they refused. I sent them a buck or 2 (it’s been a while) anyway. Hope this helps.
Good idea, Violet. I didn’t see this game currently on ebay, but I did a month ago or so when I was trying to value it. winterhawk11, I’d already seen the Kovell’s valuation (since that’s one of the few pages that comes up when you Google on “Groucho TV Quiz Game Pressman”). Unfortunately, I’m missing a few small pieces, so I imagine the true value is somewhat less. However, even when I bought it, I figgered it was a good buy for a dollar.
