Where can I find paintings online?

I have been tasked with decorating my own office. The walls are empty now and I have to find pictures to fill them up. My boss asked me to find him some paintings that he can buy.

Where do I look? So far I’ve checked Ikea and Overstock (this is the kind of budget we’re dealing with here.) My only issue with these places is that I might get a painting that everyone else has hanging on their walls. I want to go for something different, if possible.

Thoughts?

Try eBay. They even have Art Direct from the Artist:

Deviant Art has some good stuff. If you’re amenable to giclee prints on canvas, they have a category to fit that bill.

Oh, oh, oh!

Just kidding. I needed to get rid of a few.

Seriously though, what exactly are you looking for. You say something different, but are you talking “peaceful landscape”, Pop art, a copy of a little known great master work?

Here you go.

For our first (i.e. paper) anniversary, my wife just got me a signed print of this.

Um… I think I would like pictures of real estate, since I work in real estate. That makes the most sense to me. Paintings of buildings in the NYC area would be nice.

Well, trailer parks and shotgun shacks qualify as real estate, but probably not up your alley.

Allposters.com is great - has a huge selection which can be prepared on a variety of different media.

I like this picture of the Brooklyn Bridge I found on Deviant Art. Anyone have similar suggestions?

If you go on Etsy, and look under “Vintage” and then “Paper Ephemera,” a lot of people sell old* prints and posters, there are some interesting architectural renderings, facades, and even floor plans. Some people sell the plates from old architecture text books, some of those are neat.

Some of the images are in the public domain, and are reproduced as posters or prints that are fairly common. So if you want something that is NOT fairly common, you can do a google image search to see if it turns up a lot of similar items in gift shops.

If you need things in a larger size, you could also consider getting a series of related postcards or small format prints, and then having them matted and framed as one large piece. Do not attempt this yourself unless you are a professional.

Here is one example of an Etsy seller who has this sort of thing:

*old can mean either it really is old, or that it looks old. I find this to be very uneven from seller to seller, but even the “it looks old” stuff would look fine when framed in an office.

If you have the time to look http://www.saatchiart.com has some very nice work for sale. The prints (rather than the originals) might be more in your budget.

Check out art.com. They’ve got a huge range of styles - everything from modern minimalism, to prints of 17th century paintings, to old concert posters.

I found some of Tim Cox at Amazon, but I doubt that’s the type you’re looking for. However,if you like horses, cows and clouds done right, check his work out
