Where can I find the details of the Economic Recovery Plan?

I found the bill itself, but I haven’t been able to find a document that details how many jobs will be saved or created, point by point within the bill. I want to see how it all adds up to 4 million jobs.

Is there such an animal?

The Congressional Budget Office did an analysis of the bill before the Republican moderates came up with the amendment to eliminate some of the spending in the bill. PDF file.

Thanks, Ravenman!

On a similar note, does anyone have a link to a good detailed analysis of the tax implications of the bill? For example, are there tax credits for home purchases or auto purchases? If so, how much and how are they structured?

Personally I don’t think things like that are good policy, but if they are there and they apply to me I want to take advantage!

Where can I find the bill, in PDF?

Go to http://thomas.loc.gov, and search for bill number H.R. 1. (You have to click a “search by bill number” button first.) The “passed by the House” and “passed by the Senate” versions are what you are looking for.

Judging by the news, the final version of the bill should be posted there in a matter of hours to a couple days.

Since the news says a final, compromise version of the bill should be available in hours/days, you probably want to defer any tax planning until the final version of the bill is done, at which time preliminary details will start to become available… although the IRS will have to issue new regulations and guidance after the bill is signed, which means we’re looking at weeks to perhaps months before you will get definitive answers to your questions.

Thanks. I wouldn’t really act on any information, I just like to know what is coming down the road. I have already brought a new car this year not expecting any preferential tax treatment, although if it exists and applies to me I’d love to take advantage.

Thanks.

Does anyone think this looks as scary as some people have made it out to be? I’m no expert on these things, but I feel like it’s a good start. Anyone?
