What Fleetwood Mac album contains the song “Silver Springs”? I don’t know how I missed this gem. I must have been living under a rock!
The Dance
Thanks! I guess nobody buys CDs anymore. Sad. The whole love for music collecting and pouring over an album’s liner notes is just gone…not to mention the artwork! Yet, some fool at the top of Barnes and Nobles thinks vinyl is a thing.
Silver Springs was originally recorded for the Rumours album but left out because of its length. I personally prefer the live version vs. the studio cut.
Silver Springs -‘it’s a great old song’
Great song. Heads up that The Dance is a live album. The original studio version of “Silver Springs” was intended for Rumours but was cut and ended up as a b-side and so is something of a rarity. It’s available on at least one Fleetwood Mac compilation album and on certain expanded reissues of Rumours.
Or you can be one of us who bought it on 45 rpm. It was the B-side to “Go Your Own Way.”
I looked up “The Dance” under “Fleetwood Mac Discography” on Wikipedia. As you say, it is a live album. Does a studio version appear anywhere? Or, because it was scratched from Rumors, it is now black balled for life? If it is only a live version, this may well explain how I missed this tune. I don’t tend to gravitate to live versions, and while a small number get airplay (like Peter Frampton), this one apparently did not enamor the DJs. Still, the lyrics are quite poignant to those who can relate.
Why do you think that someone is foolish for thinking that vinyl is a thing?
I’ll have to keep an eye out for the reissue of Rumours. Here again, I would have missed out on this gem as I am a traditionalist and seek the original forms of albums on CD. I don’t like the industry playing Dr. Frankenstein and messing with classic rock albums just to boost their limp sales like some kind of magical Viagara for the music moguls.
If you haven’t discovered it already, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were making music before Fleetwood Mac. A lot of their material became FM tunes or songs. Buckingham Nicks - Full Album My favorite song is Sorcerer.
Also search YouTube for Fleetwood Mac demos, a lot of rare stuff and some is very good.
The Dance is one of my favorite albums ever, and that’s partly because it’s live
As **silenus **already mentioned, it’s on the B-Side of the Go Your Own Way single…which can be had through Amazon for a mere 5 bucks, if you act now!
This assumes you have a record player somewhere…if not, that’ll set you back another $50 or so…
Nice song, but a crap place to live.
just checked Amazon music. “The Dance” is free with Prime or $9.49 for the album. Not sure about individual song price for the live version. You can purchase the studio version of “Silver Springs” for $1.29. Or “Rumors Deluxe” which includes that song for $18.99.
CD art is nice, but I LOVE the ease and convenience of Amazon Cloud Player that I can take with me everywhere.
For a while, I lived just down the road from Ocala, Florida’s “Silver Springs Attraction.” Every radio station in a fifty-mile radius played that damned song to death. One station even claimed Stevie Nicks wrote it in tribute to the place, after a concert there  (SSA had a concert pavilion with lawn seating and some decent acts).
