Where can I find wasabi-flavored dried peas?

I went to the Times Square Westin yesterday for drinks with my boss and a business associate. In the bar, they serve these salty dried peas with a kick of wasabi. I’m thinking that these would go great with beer. And they’re probably better for you than chips and dip. Has anyone had these, and more importantly, does anyone know where I can find them?

Trader Joe’s.

I don’t know where you live Jackknifed, but my local Jewel-Osco grocery store sells this stuff in bags – in the vegatable department.

They also sell it in the vegetable department.

Thanks guys. There’s a Trader Joe’s near my house.

I don’t know if you work in the city, but you sound like you have access to it, so here goes.

There’s a Japanese supermarket called Sunrise Mart, which I swear is ripped straight out of Tokyo. THE PLACE IS AMAZING! If you love wasabe peas and all sorts of other weirdo Asian crunchy snacks, this is your place.

Sunrise Mart
4 Stuyvesant St. 2nd Fl.
New York, NY 10003
(212)598-3040

(basically 10th st and 3rd ave across from a big NYU dorm)

Oh! Oh! And while you’re at TJ’s, check out the wasabi cracker-coated peanuts. They’re addictive!

Try Japanese Grocery stores, as noted above. At least two Japanese groceries in Cambridge, MA sell wasabi peas (one sells two different brands). Pepper Mill was hooked on 'em for a while.

Harry & David stores also carry them, as well as many other delectable treats.
If you get hooked on the $16 a bag truffles, don’t blame me

If you’re on a Walt Disney World vacation, I saw these at the Japanese Pavilion at EPCOT.

Since you seem to have a good handle on where to get them, I’ll just add that you are correct in your assumption that they go good with beer.

The Trader Joe’s I shop at has them in a “party mix” type bag with other little rice treats. (well worth a try) There is a place that sells just the peas, however. But its over 3000 miles from you, so I’ll just keep it to myself.

i just want to say they’re ok, especially if you suck on them for a bit before chewing.

I called my local Trader Joe’s and they have them. Woo-hoo! And I will checkout the Sunrise Mart next time I’m downtown.

I’ve been able to find them at my usual grocery stores in Texas when we lived there and now in Virginia. They’re in the Asian/Oriental food (however they word it.) aisle.

Aw, thanks a lot. Now I want wasabi peas and shrimp fries.
The Publix grocery store a few miles from my house has wasabi peas (and I just finished shopping this afternoon). Picked up some fresh california rolls and full moon combo, and never even thought about the wasabi peas. But they don’t have shrimp fries. Those would cost me $59 admission plus $2.50 for the fries: a l’eel bit expensive. Lemme see if I can get a friend at EPCOT to pick me up some bags tonight.

In Austin I’ve started seeing the wasabi peas and Pocky in the “Asian” section at the HEBs. Since I first noticed them about 3 months ago, I’ve been going in to replenish supplies at least once a week.

I live in small town Georgia, but I’ve always been able to get them at local farmer’s markets.

I believe you can mail order it too from [a href=“http://www.harryanddavid.com”]Harry and David [/a]

I think every bodega and supermarket in NYC has 'em. YUM.

Should you need/want to buy them in more quantity, I saw someone selling 5 pounds on eBay, starting price $12.95. (Hey, they’re not all for me; I maintain a snack jar for myself and my fellow developers. Rapacious, some of 'em.)
