Brynda and I will be going to the INS tomorrow to go through the process of adjusting my status to conditional permanent resident and as part of this, I need to submit some passport photos. They need to be ADIT photos, which means that my right ear must be showing, but I don’t know where to get any from. I have tried Kinkos and the local post office, but they do not do them. The only other place which has been recommended is a professional photographer (at somewhere like Sears or JCPenneys), but they are expensive.
In the UK there are machines all over where you can get passport photos taken for about 3-4 UK pounds. Is there anything like this in the US at all?
Check the phone book, photo studios that do that sort of work usually put it their phone book ads. It is quite common and usually not “that” expensive.
Is the INS office in downtown Detroit? If so, I guarantee you that within close proximity to the INS office there will be several shops where you can have these photos taken.
What ruadh said. Also, anyplace that does passport photos should be able to follow the specs for INS photos (Walgreens, for example). Most vending machine photos won’t work, as the machine that mounts them onto your green card will melt the paper, which isn’t able to stand up to the necessary temps.
Just make sure you’re not wearing glasses, earrings, or anything covering your head, as INS frequently rejects photos for those reasons. Good luck, and get to INS VERY early; they only serve a certain number of people a day, and it’s like Ticketmaster; they open at 7 or 7:30 am, and if you’re not there when the last ticket is handed out, you’re SOL. One of my clients (IANAL, by the way) found out today, the hard way.
Try a photo shop in the mall. That is where I got my passport photos taken. Just make sure when they take the picture you right ear is showing. They will probably use a digital camera so you can make sure it is right before they print it.
