Where can I get good advice on non-organic gardening?

I don’t have too much of a problem right now, but I’ve seen a few aphids on some of my tomatoes. I have a few Japenese Beetles. I certainly don’t have an emergency that needs tending, but I know how quickly aphids can take over. I know how poorly those soap solutions work as well.

The trouble is, everytime I look for advice on pest control, I get organic farming techniques. I want advice on what pesticides to use and when. Will I kill beneficial species, and how can I recover them if I do? Sometimes the organic solution may be best, but I need to know what the options are.

If you’re looking for advice on control of a specific pest (such as aphids), your state Extension service is an excellent resource. I don’t know where you live, but here in Ohio, all the Extension fact sheets are online and searchable. They usually present a variety of control methods.
