Where can I get my hands on some guavas?

I really miss them. I haven’t had them in years. I live in the Capital District, Albany, NY. Kind of out of the way, but certainly not East Bumblefuck or anything like that.

Grocery stores never have them, even though they have all kinds of exotic fruits. I tried the Honest Weight Food Coo-op. The Indian stores don’t have them.

Any other suggestions?

You can get them, but they’ll be expensive. When I lived in Canada I would sometimes find Thai Guavas in latin grocery stores, but it was very hit and miss and I think $8-10 a pound.

These people seem to ship, you might want to try them.

Or, you could do what I did and move to south Florida, where there are actual guava plantations!

Just remember that green guavas can be constipating, so be careful (yes, I knew that before I ate all those green guavas, but sometimes you can’t stop yourself, you know?)

AND what you guys laughlingly call palmetto bugs and what I call DEAR GOD ALMIGHTY WHAT IS THAT THING. No thanks, I’ll stay up here in the northeast where all the bugs die every winter.

But I will try the other stores. I suppose I could always get them from the City but that’s a PITA.

Would you settle for delicious, intoxicatingly sweet guava paste? because that you should be able to find in most South American grocery stores.

Take a few slices of guava paste, a few slices of cream cheese, and place them between two slices of Cuban bread. Run through a panini press until the guava just melts. Now sit back and eat, you can thank me later.

haha… Indeed…:D…

Anaamika I think if u r desperate then atleast once in a while u can manage to get them even if it is expensive…

What Simpsons Quiz Character are you?

Would you guys believe the luck I had today? I went to the Indian store I always go to, because they had mangoes. Imagine my irritation when I pulled up only to find the guy had stepped out “until 2:30”. It was only 2 PM, and I just wanted to go home, so I went to another Indian store nearby. I got the mangoes, and as I was paying, I said, “Do you have any amrood?” *Amrood *is guava, of course. And they had some nice fresh ones! They are $3 a pound so I am not going to get them very often but it was nice for a treat.

So…yay!
