Before I searched, I didn’t know a lot of these are sold. In some of my older computers, they came with Windows, but mine doesn’t seem to have some of the nifty ones that I like to mess with. Can anyone recommend some free font download sites?
dafont.com is pretty good - otherwise, just try googling free fonts categories (adding ‘categories’ to your google search here will find you some of the more useful free font sites (out of the hundreds or thousands of free font sites that are out there).
Don’t install too many though - because it’s one of the things that can make Windows quite sluggish, especially during booting.
I like this one. There are a lot of really good ones, also a lot of very niche-market ones.
fontsquirrel is another
As far as specific free fonts, Gentium gets a lot of love and Code2000 has absolutely massive Unicode coverage.
Or you could use Comic Sans. (Mildly NSFW language in a webcomic.)
Just Googling “free fonts” will give you more free fonts than you can shake a stick at.
Yech, Code2000 is hideous. As far as free fonts go, I don’t think it gets much better than the DejaVu family (known in prior iterations as Bitstream Vera). There is some debate about monospace fonts; some prefer Inconsolata, but my preference for programming and such is still DejaVu Sans Mono.
