Does anyone know the origin of the internet meme “ninja’d” for simulposts?
Just a guess, but in MMORPGs, if someone comes in and steals loot that should have been rolled for among the group, then it’s called “ninjaing the loot”.
If you beat someone to the point that they are trying to make just a split second before they post it, you ninjaed (stole) their spot.
The MMORPG application dates at least as far back as Everquest in 1999. I don’t know if it was used in any MUDs or anything previous to that.
Even back then, I’d see “ninja’d!” used on the forums as a “haha, got here first!” thing but since I was hanging out on Everquest forums I can’t say if it was wider spread than that.
Don’t go ninja’n nobody that don’t need ninja’n.
Same, but it started out as “ninja loot,” as in “you ninja looted my magic ring, you scum,” and later got shortened to “ninja’d.”
Edit: basically, you snuck up (like a ninja) and took it.
There is no such thing as ninjas.
So it’s all in your head?
