My first and middle names were to be Gregory Allen The story goes: the birth certificate was written up. The family doctor took a good look at me after I had been cleaned up, said I would look just like my dad. He told my parents they should change my name to a Jr. Being good people who listen to doctors implicitly, they changed my name. So I got crap through most of school about the “Junior” thing.
How many Micheles are on this board? I’m the only one who spells it right. (Imagine a grinning smilie here. I’m joking, O.K.?)
I think my parents looked around for the most common girl name they could find because whereever I go there are always at least 2 other Micheles.
I’m named after a male (English?) professer my parents both had in college. Apparently, Lindsay was unisex back then.
My middle name, Robin, is after the mutual friend who introduced my mom and dad to each other. I think.
I used to hate my names, both of 'em, but a couple of moths ago I found out that they make one heck of a pen name: L. Robin (last name here).
Hey Pink Slinky, I’m another single “l” Michele. It’s my middle name.
My dad wanted to name my Larry and my mom wanted to name me Sam. Since they couldn’t agree, they decided to just combine the two names and came up with Michael.
My Dad was a history major in college who boozed a little too much. One night, while drunk off his ass with his roommate, another history major, they hatched a plan.
Years later, after marrying my Mom, he explained what he had to do. She wouldn’t let him get away with it for the first born, so my older bro got grandparents names. I became the proud recipient of the drunken name…Benjamin Franklin. My dad’s roommate’s kid, is a Thomas Jefferson, also known as T.J.
Thanks Pops.
Pycat90 my name is also Shannon and I was named a similar way. The commercial was for a speak n’ say toy though. My middle name was my maternal grandmothers name, Sophia.
My sister was born in '64. My parents had planned on naming a girl Heidi, but couldn’t go through with it. Instead those chose two names of popular movie characters? What gems did they choose to pair together? Tammy Lolita. I kid my parents about that one all the time.
On the other hand, Junior was bestowed upon me, and my 3-yr-old sister promptly referred to me as “her buddy” when I came home from the hospital. It stuck.
My middle name is Enright. I was named after a priest.
My first name is Beltrand. My mother was taking a Spanish History class (i’m half spanish). Apparently, king Carlos V (Charles) of spain had a bastard son with a mistress named doña Beltraneja. Beltran is just the masculine of beltraneja. my mom added the ‘d’ to “anglocize” my name a little. i’ve never met another Beltrand, but if i do, drinks are on me. it’s actually common as a last name w/ spanish speakers…
My first name comes from my dad’s favorite song at the time, “Jessica” by the Allman Brothers. My middle name (Catherine) is my mom’s, my grandma’s, and my great-grandmother’s name. Set together with my four-syllable last name, it’s all a real pain to say.
My little sister is named Ashley and I used to tell her that she was named after a certain character in “Gone With the Wind.” That was completely untrue, of course, but I enjoyed getting her all worked up about being given a “boy name.”
I was born in June and my middle name is . . . June.
My younger sister was born in April and her middle name is . . . April.
My youngest sister was born in February and her middle name is . . . Marie.
I would have gone with February. That would be a cool middle name.
My first name, Robert, was my going to be my mom’s name if she was a boy.
My middle name, Andrew, comes from my Grandpa on my Dad’s side. Though he was always referred to by his nickname, Dusty.
My mom won’t tell me where my first name came from, but my middle name (which I really disliked for the longest time) came from one of her favorite pop stars at the time… Nelson. I never used to tell people what the ‘N’ in my initials stood for. Or if I did I told them it stood for Nicodemus, which I thought sounded cooler.
On a related note, friends I went to school with were named, well strangely isn’t the right word. But their initials were (from oldest to youngest) A,B,C,D… didn’t realize that until I stopped by one morning before school and saw their lunches sitting on the counter.
I also went to school with these two brothers (one was a couple years ahead of me) who’s initials were T.E.D. and R.E.D.
YOu guys will never believe this one. I was actually named after my, get this, father. I have the exact name as my dad. Now that’s crazy. Of course, I could never say the letter R. So that is why my user name is Wobbie. Cause that’s what people thought my name was. Ha. Now that’s silly. Hehe
My mom was looking on a map of Australia and saw a town called Kimberley so that’s what she named me. She originally wanted to name me Amy Michelle but her brother named his daughter that. I don’t know where my middle name came from but it’s Anne.
My great-uncle was Dan Antoine, my father is Dan Andrew, I’m Dan Alan, my son is Dan Adam. Eldest son is always Dan A.
I am Philip Patrick. My father is David Philip, and my mother is Patricia Ann. Other names considered were Patrick Philip and Patrick David, but I guess they figured this flowed better.
Well, the name “David” is Hebrew in origin, meaning “beloved one.” The second king of Ancient Israel, of course, was David, anointed by Samuel, pursued and plotted against by Saul, and … Oh, you mean personally?
That’s kind of interesting, too. All the kids in my family are named alphabetically. Really. I’m the fourth kid. I guess that’s the only reason I’m Dave. That, and 'cause I’m male. If I was female, I suppose I’d be named Diane or Debra or something. But it’s because I was born fourth.
My middle name is from a child my father’s parents had who died in an accident as a youngster.
My kids have somewhat interesting name origins, too, but I won’t go into that unless the Teeming Millions press me on it.
Dave-guy : The alphabetical thing - that’s what I was trying to say about the friends of mine. The oldest’s first name started with A, the next B, etc… to D… his name was Daniel I belive though.
I know it was intentional, but I wonder if it was planned? Did the parents think “To make it easy on ourselves, let’s name our kids alphabetically!” or did it just happen that the eldest was named with an “A” name, and then… well, I don’t know. In the case of my friends, the eldest boy was named August and he was born in August, so I don’t think they had planned ahead to name their kids that way.
