Where did your name come from?

My Mom really wanted to name me Leigh except she couldn’t think of a middle name other than Anne (and she hated the name Anne) that went with it. So she named me Kara Leigh.

Then she named my sister Hayley Anne.

My parents were positive that I was going to be a boy, so they picked out a boy’d name. Imagine the surprise when the doctor said “It’s a girl!” and then asked what they were going to name me!!

My mother claims she had no idea, so the doctor suggested Angela, because I looked like a little angel… and Dawn for my middle name because I was born in the morning.

Thus the name Angela Dawn…meaning according to the doctor, angel of the morning… which is kind of funny because I am the farthest thing from an angel in the morning now!!

“Just call me Angel in the morning, Angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me, baby!”

Clark, I think it was sort of accidental in my family to name the kids alphabetically.

The oldest was named after our grandfather, Alfred (although, mercifully, my parents chose Alan). The next was named Barbara, just because I think they liked the name. This was just before Barbie dolls hit it big, so there’s no connection. Then, when the third came along, they must have figured “what the hell” and named him Craig.

It didn’t keep things easier, because with 4 boys, my mother still couldn’t keep our names straight, and she would often run down the list until she hit the right one. “Al—Cr—Da----Edwaaaard!” My father was more efficient. Just whistled through his teeth and we all came running.

Sleeping in a filing cabinet was a bitch, though.

My first name is Fiona, because my parents liked it. My middle name is Margaret (yuck, spit. Sorry all Margarets out there but I don’t like it!)
ANyhow, my nan (father’s mother) is called Margaret, but everyone calls her Bunty. My mom was meant to be Carole Anne Margaret & was christened that, but her father forgot to put the Margaret on the birth certificate, so I got stuck with the leftover Margaret & my mom’s mom thought I was named after the other nan & that she had been left out…luckily I was too young to notice the fuss!
If I had been a boy, I would have been Michael Forsyth then the surname.

My parents were foster parents before I came along, and they named me for the two boys they’d fostered…

My family name is more interesting, though… it’s German for “horror”. Sorta makes me wonder what one of my ancestors did to get saddled with it.

I have to admit, though, I get a kick out of spotting it in movies – Max Schreck in the original “Nosferatu”, the character of the same name in the second Batman movie, and the upcoming animated film with Mike Myers’ voice, “Shrek”…

No, I’m not picky about the spelling. In other people’s names, that is. <grin>
