Collounsbury has a web log that he keeps now. I read it a couple of times. It’s rather pathetic. He was a very interesting poster, but not having anyone to interact with leaves him with not much to say. He simply posts articles and talks about the middle east (which is his area of expertise). Boring as can be.
What makes the SDMB interesting is the interactions between all the different people. If you take any of us (even the most fasinating ones) and put us in a vacume without anyone to respond to then there really isn’t anything left.

Everybody knows they are locked away in the Straight Dope dungeon, underneath the offices in Chicago. They spend their remaining days typing out all those email alerts we recieve and put detail on the SD mugs.
They go to live on your aunt’s farm, in the country, where they get ot play with kittens and puppies and eat sweeties all day. You can’t visit tho’ cos it’s miles and miles away and the buses don’t go there …
