Where do bugs go when it rains?

The wind is coming up and a few raindrops are starting to fall…

I’ve noticed that in windy or pre-rain conditions it’s OK to leave the patio door screen open for our cats and usually no bugs come in. I’ve read that flying for an insect is sorta like swimming in syrup. So:

  • Does wind pretty much disable their flying control and ground them?
  • Does a rain drop mean death from heat loss or being encapsulated by water?
  • Do they crawl into the grass or have a known place of shelter?
  • ?
